Freepers and other bloggers should be proud as we the members of the new media were able to get the early skinny on Nancy Pelosi shutting down the House and turning out the lights on a GOP Sponsored Drilling Bill. If not for the efforts of Freerepublic and other new media sites, Democrats would have gotten away with this mockery today.
I got a call from Kristinn at 3 pm today and headed for the Hill, I arrived a bit after 3:30 and meet the staffers for 3 GOP Congressional Member, who gave me a quick SITREP.
This is what I was told, "That Congressional Members were allowed to offer bills up for vote before the House concluded its business and when the Democrat Leadership found out that the Republican Minority was going to offer up a bill to allow drilling, Nancy Pelosi then and there decided quickly to adjourn all business in the House." When Republican Leaders protested, the Speaker and Democrats leaders ordered power to the House Floor shut off, which in turn shut off C-SPAN as well.
I was also told that Capitol Hill Police were order to shut down the House Gallery as other members of the new media were making their way to Capitol Hill with cameras and other recording devices. A member of the Capitol Hill Police Force informed me that the Speaker's Office had ordered them to clear the floor of the House no later than 4:30.
Several Congressional Staffers tried to get me to the floor of the House only to be blocked or have their request deflected by House Employees.
During my more than hour and a half on the hill, I was able to visit several offices and you guys kept the phones ringing off the hook!!!
Speaking with one Congressional Chief of Staff, I was informed that the GOP has more than enough votes in the House to pass a drilling bill as some of the Blue Dog Democrats are feeling the heat back home in their districts and the price of gas is becoming a campaign issue in many races.
Nancy Pelsoi can claim honest and open government in the House, but much like Hugo Chavez if she thinks she is going to lose on an issue, then she turns out the lights!

I have seen no reports on this in the nightly news and they won’t report on it because the new media exposed this.
What was your sense of things on the ground when they closed up shop in time for dinner?

With this heavy handed tactic, Nancy Pelosi may well have handed the 2008 election to the Republicans. I don’t think the mainstream media can ignore this for long. Bloggers are all over this and they will eventually have to address it especially if the President calls Congress back into session. Here’s hoping.
Do any of the Republican members who were there have cell phone cameras? And if so, did they use them? There’s always YouTube...hehehe.
