we have one man who understands he's a mere mortal like the rest of us, and one man, who seems to think he is a god.

This, folks, is
THE THING YOU MUST UNDERSTAND

about the differences in worldviews of conservatives and liberals.

Conservatives understand that none of us are to be trusted with power over other people's lives because we are inherently limited and flaws.

Liberals believe people are perfectable (thus rejecting Biblical truth on the nature of man).
Since people are perfectable, logically, some are more perfect than others. These enlightened few not only have the right to make decisions for the rest of us, they have the DUTY to do so. That is their view.

Exactly.

There are only two religions when they’re boiled down to their essence:

[1] Those who believe that man is _basically good_ (innocent), even though he sometimes makes mistakes.

[2] Those who believe that man is _NOT basically good_ (innocent), even though he is capable of doing good in varying degrees.

Everyone, including the so-called atheist, falls into one of these two religions.

“Whenever I meet someone who claims to find faith in God impossible, but who persists in believing in the essential goodness of humanity, I know that I have met a person for whom evidence is irrelevant.” ~ Dennis Prager ( Ultimate Issues , July- September, 1989)
