Strange but hardly anyone holds them to the same standards such as taxation through licensing or bicycle registration, otherwise, they don’t have any “right” to the street. I’m taxed on my wheels and so are bikers (meaning motorcyclists) so these people need to pay the price as we do.
No, I’m not for more taxes but in this case it needs to be “fair”, right??
They need to carry liability insurance, too.
The laws in this state declare the rules for bicycles on the roadways, no matter what you assert. And I drive in other states without registering or paying taxes to that state.
Consider too the wear & tear upon the roads, which is proportional to the 4th power of the weight of the vehicle. As I presume the taxes you pay for the roads to be somewhat under $10k, if your car+driver weights 2000 lbs and a cyclist + bicycle weighs 200 lbs... it'll cost the state a WHOLE lot more to collect the tax than what they get from it. (And I don't know any cyclists who don't also drive.)
But those who break the laws, TICKET them d*mmit!
Wrong, we have a right to the street because the law clearly says that we have a right to the road. If you don't like it, get it changed. Good luck on that these days.
