Rush: The Engine of Conservatism
Human Events ^ | July 28, 2008 | Mark Levin

Posted on 07/28/2008 9:59:56 AM PDT by Dan Walsh

When I was a teenager, my dad used to say that the media in this country are so biased and so liberal that we conservatives needed to figure out a way to buy a big newspaper or television network so our views could have a voice. That was 35-40 years ago. Today, we have Rush Limbaugh. He is our voice. He is the counter-weight to the liberal media complex. He is the answer my dad and millions like him were hoping for. Those of us who were alive and attentive during the 1960's and 1970's know what it would be like if there wasn't a Rush Limbaugh.

Rush didn't have to buy a newspaper or television network to be heard. By the force of his brilliance and talent, he took the dying AM radio band and turned it into the most consequential and thriving media forum in the nation.

I heard on one of the commercials that certain Best Buy stores are going to open up some floor space for musical instruments. I’m going to give my local one a call.

Rush’s impact is undeniable. What really scares me is that his success might be his undoing. The liberals are trying to use the Fairness Doctrine to close talk radio down. Never mind that they tried their own flavor of talk radio and it failed miserably. Man...I love it when the market works without interference!

Friday will mark the 20th anniversary of the most successful talk radio phenom of all time! Thanks for a great twenty years on the air, Rush!

All we need now is conservative newspapers.

“Who’s yer buddy, ping...”

But before you have a coniption fit...

Do you remember the day when you didn’t have to have someone tell you what was right, and that you were just as smart, if not smarter than anyone in the media...

I believe that was years ago for many of us, and maybe even before this guy showed up...

You guys are a part of that for sure...I really mean that...

Today we have Rush. After Obama gets in, he’ll kill conservative media with the Fairness Doctrine.

All we need now is conservative newspapers.

More importantly, we need Conservative teachers and professors.

We will soon. Many of the problems we have in our university systems is the fact that it is populated by tenured professors who, in a nutshell, where hippies who became professional students to avoid the draft. They transitioned into teaching as they where trying to stay in school as long as possible- generally through their doctorate. The good news is many are retiring now and the next generation, who naturally rebelled against them philosophically, are taking their place.

Don't know...I just thought it summed up how I feel about a lot of things I hear people say. My best guess is that soup is just a little smarter than either Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi...both of whom compete equally with sand.

Some of us are exceptions to this broad brush.

There is a staunchly conservative newspaper: Investor’s Business Daily. Some of the best editorials you will ever read and chock full of facts to make the conservative case. A must read for any true conservative. Costs me $300 / yr and worth every penny for the editorials alone.

Used to be...the "fairness doctrine" would allow anyone with opposing viewpoints to get "equal time" on a program to make their views known. Johnny Carson used to do a parody on this with his character in the red flannel hat and jacket (can't remember the character's name).

Anyway, if the "new" fairness doctrine works like the old one, then it should work both ways. Conservatives should then be able to demand equal time to all the radio and TV show espousing liberal ideas...and that is most of them.

If that still holds, then we could beat them at their own game by flooding the FCC and networks with requests for equal time everytime a talking head spouts his liberal gibberish, and get equal time for the conservative point of view.
