Chicago continues to enforce gun ban - Says court ruling doesn't apply here

Chicago Police will continue to enforce the city's handgun ban and firearm registration laws while lawyers fight the pro-gun lobby in federal court.

The National Rifle Association and the Illinois State Rifle Association filed federal lawsuits to shoot down Chicago's gun laws after the U.S. Supreme Court voided the District of Columbia's handgun ban last month.

City Corporation Counsel Mara Georges told a City Council committee Thursday that she's prepared to fight those lawsuits all the way to the Supreme Court.

"Chicago's gun ordinance was not invalidated by the . . . decision. Three prior Supreme Court decisions have found that the Second Amendment does not apply to states and municipalities," Georges said. "The decision did not change that case law."

Georges said she's confident that the U.S. District Court will dismiss the gun lobby lawsuit challenging Chicago's existing laws.

"What would happen for it to apply to Chicago is that the district court would have to fail to follow well-established Supreme Court precedent . . . and say that we should be treated like a federal jurisdiction," she said. "That's the difference here. D.C. was considered a federal jurisdiction. . . . We are not."

So they just pick and choose what they want to follow.
The supremacy clause trumps Chicago laws.
But not in their world.

“That’s the difference here. D.C. was considered a federal jurisdiction. . . . We are not.”

So I suppose the First Amendment doesn’t apply to Chicago either?

Talk about clinging to the last desperate hope.

The Supreme Court needs to appoint a Special Master for Chicago and DC.

Someone also needs to ask The Fake Messiah what his position his on his hometown’s legal stance on this issue.

"...Three prior Supreme Court decisions have found that the Second Amendment does not apply to states and municipalities," Georges said."

So, by her twisted "logic", none of the other amendments apply to states or municipalities either.

I can't stress this enough: WHAT A COLOSSAL TWIT!!!

The rub is that there is no personal downside for Ms Corp Councel Mara. She is working on the taxpayer dime. No penalty will be levied against her should she lose. If she should win, she will have become the Giant Killer, heroine to libs everywhere.

Liberals obey the law, court orders, etc., only when the law, court orders, etc., tell them to do something liberal.

The First Amendment restricts Congress. The Second says the people have a right that may not be restricted.

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”

vs

“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

I see how you can argue the 1st does not apply to a state, but fail to see how the second cannot.

You have the Second Amendment, Just encase there is a disagreement with the First Amendment. The ruling is from the U.S. Supreme Court, so it applies to the peoples republic of Chicago, Denver and S.F.

Chicago: Murder rate sparks political spats

It's been one long, bloody year for the Windy City.

Murders are up 13 percent. During the past school year, 29 Chicago-area youths were killed by gunfire. On one April weekend, 40 people were shot. Over the July Fourth weekend, nine people were gunned down - with three more killed this past weekend.

The press is dubbing Chicago "Beirut by the Lake."....

"It's fair to say that violent crime in Chicago is out of control," Mr. Blagojevich said recently. "In certain communities in the city of Chicago, it is reaching epidemic proportions."

But, but, but.....

Oh, hell. Never mind.

"That's the difference here. D.C. was considered a federal jurisdiction. . . . We are not."

That was not a material distinction made in the case. That arguement is a loser.

Speaking of the fall of the Roman Empire or any nation.
