As far back as December 21, 1924, the wise and knowing New York Times was getting claims and analyses wrong with regard to evil and violent actors around the world.
Look upward, and take in once again the title of this post. It is a real headline from a 12/21/24 Times article, in which a Times reporter explains that Hitler, released on parole from the Landsberg fortress where he had been sent for trying to overthrow the German government (in what has come to be known as the "Beer Hall Putsch"), had been "moderated" by prison to such a degree that German authorities were convinced that he presented no further danger to the existing society.

Cheers!
But scream the loudest on how everyone else is wrong.
In 1923, Isaac F. Marcosson wrote in the NYT, "Mussolini is a Latin [Teddy] Roosevelt who first acts and then inquires if it is legal. He has been of great service to Italy at home."
That quote is from Liberal Fascism, which is a book I can't recommend strongly enough for those who, like me, are interested in this sort of history.
Mussolini admired Teddy Roosevelt who has been called a proto-fascist.
They gave a fairly positive review to Mein Kampf upon its release.

“DuhNYTimes” needs a good Bitch Slappin’
They surely got it wrong with Georgia and the Stalin genocide.
I’m certain the NY Slimes also fawned over Hitler when he was their hero’s (Uncle Joe’s) friend from August 23, 1939 til June 22, 1941.
That explains a lot!
Believed by whom? This is akin to today's journalist practice of using "some say". Just a baseless statement, not researched, in the passive voice and dead wrong.
Great find and post!!!
