ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- A controversial billboard in Orange County has a picture of the burning World Trade Center and the message, "Please Don't Vote for a Democrat."
The man who paid for the ad says he's trying to help Republicans, but officials with both political parties are calling the billboard inappropriate. There are billboards up and down busy Orange Blossom Trail, but this at John Young Parkway (see map) one sticks out.
"Just looking at it, I'm not thinking about Democrat or Republican, I'm thinking about the twin towers and all the people killed," resident Mary Anderson told Eyewitness News.
The ad went up last week and is causing quite a reaction.
"Why use the twin towers for that purpose?" Anderson questioned.

McCain can always say, “That’s not the Mike Meehan I knew.”
The guy's trying to sell his music CD. Sick.
It shows what most of us are thinking: 1. Never forget; 2. Don’t vote Democrat; 3. Vote Republican.
In today’s world of interchangable presidential candidates, I can agree with 1 and 2. I have to add a Don’t to the front of three as far as the top of the ticket.
The problem is that in the public consciousness there is no logical nexus between voting for democrats and 911 happening.
Bush’s big mistake (among several) was his nonexistent promotion of the war. As the war dragged on, it was easy for the news media and their cohorts in the cultural drivers (film, tv, comedians) to depict it as inept. As the criticism piled on, the GOP was asleep at the wheel, unable or unwilling to make the case.
The bottom fell out at the 2006 election, where the American public decided it would trust democrats more. That wasn’t a wise choice - the dems have nothing much to show since retaking Congress, and while Congress is very unpopular, it doesn’t seem to stick to the dems at all.
The GOP needs to deliver a cogent and coherent message, and the fact is they just aren’t doing it. Thing is, I still think that despite these weaknesses, McCain will win in November (though I expect significant losses for the GOP in the House and Senate).
Nothing my Mom could say would ever get to me more than “The truth hurts, doesn’t it”?
I’m sick and tired of being bullied into being politically correct. Democrats are BAD for national security. Period.
By the way, there’s a poll on that site. Go vote.
Voting for Democrats, Is choosing to be POOR with Lowered Expectations.
What a great idea! Not sick at all, very smart.
Everyone who buys a CD can claim they are helping to sponsor the billboard.
Well you know, 9-11 was actually staged by the Bush Administration. The “Freedom Fighters” of Islam didn’t have anything to do with it (but they sure partied hard while it was happening....)
(/Sarcasm)
Hooray for truth in advertising!
If the media can take sides, the truth must come out no matter how it happeneds.
911 as a Marketing Technique. Yeah, it's sick.
That's how you and the Democrats see it.
The rest of us see it as reminding everyone which party was responsible for 9-11
Money is th emothers milk of politics.
