An anti-religion Minnesota biology professor expects to receive dozens of consecrated Communion wafers in response to his public solicitation that people send him the hosts in order that he may publicly desecrate them.
He also said he wants to point out that "I am under no obligation to revere the sacred objects of the Catholic Church.... I don't have to treat it as a little idol."
In an interview Friday, Mr. Myers said he already had received "a double-digit number" of positive responses, from people saying that they would try to get consecrated Catholic hosts for him and that the writer already had one.
Mr. Wolter said he could not say whether the university's response would be different if Mr. Myers went through with his threat, nor could he say whether acts outside the classroom can, in principle, provide a basis to revoke tenure.

"In addition to the truth of the doctrine of evolution, indeed, one of its greatest merits in my eyes, is the fact that it occupies a position of complete and irreconcilable antagonism to that vigorous and consistent enemy of the highest intellectual, moral, and social life of mankind--the Catholic Church."- T.H Huxley, Darwiniana.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
He’ll regret it soon enough... everlasting.
Coward.
ping to your lists...
that suggestion has just been made.
Yep.
What a small, sad child this fellow is.
This coward attacks Christianity. Be interesting to see what would happen if it came out that he was urinating on the Koran.
It seems that Myers is in trouble about this and he's begging for public support. At Vox Populi there's an interesting comment about this:
Vox, can you imagine how those same bloggers would respond if you were the professor involved and it was one of your blog postings that got you into some trouble with feminists? Not one of those who support Myers' right to post anything on his own blog would be supporting your right. They'd be shrieking for your head.It is the leftists who are the first to destroy anyone they can if they feel they've been offended. How many public figures have been ruined by a single comment they made that conflicted with the leftist ideology? How many pubic figures have been ruined by a single comment they made that conflicted with conservative, Christian ideology?
Well, at least he’s not going to draw a cartoon.
What a nutjob. As well as a waste of good crackers.
The cowards are picking on Catholics to incite contempt and open disrespect of religion, because they know the muslims would riot and demand their heads (and their university might actually fire them for disrespecting muslims)
This from PZ Myers:
So, what to do. I have an idea. Can anyone out there score me some consecrated communion wafers? Theres no way I can personally get them my local churches have stakes prepared for me, Im sure but if any of you would be willing to do what it takes to get me some, or even one, and mail it to me, Ill show you sacrilege, gladly, and with much fanfare. I wont be tempted to hold it hostage (no, not even if I have a choice between returning the Eucharist and watching Bill Donohue kick the pope in the balls, which would apparently be a more humane act than desecrating a goddamned cracker), but will instead treat it with profound disrespect and heinous cracker abuse, all photographed and presented here on the web. I shall do so joyfully and with laughter in my heart. If you can smuggle some out from under the armed guards and grim nuns hovering over your local communion ceremony, just write to me and Ill send you my home address.

Catholics do not regard the consecrated host as a cracker.
Just FYI.
Here's a pic
Beat me to it
I’d give him a host on a knuckle sandwich.
Bump.
We had a similar situation at the University of Kansas when a religion instructor made a big media splash about offering a sophomore level (figuratively) course on how Christianity is dumb. He loved the publicity until he made up a story about being chased and beaten by “red necks in a pickup truck with a gun rack” and had some very suspicious and pathetic photos taken. Even the most slavish reporters couldn’t buy it. He was demoted and hasn’t been heard from since.
