- Survival groups around the world are gearing up and counting down to a mysterious date that has been anticipated for thousands of years: Dec. 21, 2012.
Across the United States, Canada and throughout Europe, apocalyptic sects and individuals say that is the day that the world as we know it will end, ABCnews.com reports.
Ancient Mayan societies, known for their advanced mathematics and astronomy, followed a "long count" calendar that lasted 5,126 years. When their charts are translated to the Gregorian calendar, the international standard used today, time runs out on Dec. 21, 2012.
Believers say there are other links besides just the Mayan calendar that portend catastrophe. The sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in about 26,000 years on the same day, which marks the winter solstice. Some say that will disrupt the energy flow to Earth, or that the high rate of sunspots or sun flares that NASA has predicted for 2012 could affect Earth magnetic fields.

You’re welcome! I lack neither in faith nor a sense of humor.
You’re post citing Shimon Peres as being mentioned in Daniel didn’t show any indication of being a joke. I did think
it was pretty funny though.
Actually it’s just about right. The four years of the Obama presidency with control of both houses of Congress should just about have caused an Apocalypse by 2012.....
That was the original date that all TV's stations stop broadcasting in analog format and broadcast only in digital format but congress moved it up to February 17, 2009..........
The "thousands" stated in the above article are even laughing at your statement......

Pat vs. Filch would be a fun game ...
James was uninjured, but then I think a head-on collision with a tank would leave James uninjured.
The winter solstice has nothing to do with this, although it happens on the same day. Total coincidence. Likewise passing through the plane of the Milky Way, which isn't happening but which is often cited as the engine of this spiritual rebirth.
There was one found in Central America about 60 years ago. It might be the real deal. The rest are being producd at a rapid clip: it's quite an industry.
12/21/2012 ??
Somehow, it seems 100 years off what it should be...
There are is a “fatal flaw” in all of the doomsday scenarios surrounding the Mayan Calender and that is that it only works if their “source” of information is some sort of extraterrestrial being with a “time machine” of sorts. However, if this was the case and they had such a wealth of scientific knowledge, their civilization should have NEVER collapsed.
The media ALWAYS wants to talk about how certain cultures are/were so “superior” to ours, but they can NEVER explain why these cultures no longer exist.
The more likely explanation is that whoever was “in charge” of making the main calender got up to the winter solstice in 2012, got sidetracked doing something else and died before he got back to it. It would be totally logical for someone making calenders to stop at one of the solstices or equinoxes and the winter solstice would be the most likely because it seems like the logical place to “end” a year. So, later when someone else was put in charge of the making the calender looked at it and realized that it was so far out in the future that he had better things to do that work on it, so he just left it.
The whole Y2K hoax was because programmers in the 1970s and early 1980s didn’t write anything into the programs to go past December 31, 1999. Was this because they thought the world would end on that day? No, it was because they didn’t think anyone would still be using the programs and therefore it wasn’t worth the time and effort to write script for beyond then. My guess is that the Mayans worked on roughly the same principle. They figured that if their calender was still in use in 2012 that somebody would have already extended it.
