VATICAN SHOWS RON HOWARD THE GATE
Catholic League ^ | June 16, 2008 | staff

A movie adaptation of Dan Brown’s book, Angels and Demons, is now in production; it is the prequel to the film, “The Da Vinci Code.” There are reports today that the Vatican has banned those associated with “Angels and Demons” from shooting in Catholic churches in Rome or in the Vatican itself. This is important because there are scenes in the movie that are supposed to take place in the Vatican and in two churches in Rome.

“Angels and Demons” stars Tom Hanks in his role as Robert Langdon, the symbologist. This time he is trying to unravel a plot by a secret society, the Illuminati, to blow up the Vatican during a papal conclave.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue defended the Vatican today:

“We are delighted that Ron Howard and his Hollywood minions have been denied the opportunity to exploit the Catholic Church again. Any movie about Catholicism which draws on the specious work of Dan Brown is bound to offend Catholic sensibilities, so it was only fitting that Howard was shown the gate.

“According to Brown, his latest effort purports to reveal ‘a lot of inside information about the Vatican’ that is ‘unflattering.’ Right away we know he’s playing fast and loose: How would he have access to ‘inside information about the Vatican’? Moreover, it goes without saying that anything he writes about the Catholic Church would be ‘unflattering,’ so much so that it explains his defensiveness. ‘It’s certainly not an anti-Catholic book,’ he says. Could it be pro-Catholic?

“Just as revealing is Brown’s comment that ‘Separating Illuminati fact from fiction can be difficult on account of the massive quantities of misinformation that has been generated about the brotherhood.’ This is vintage Brown: mix fact and fiction together, stir well, and throw the stew on the screen. Then hope the gullible bite.

“In any event, Howard will now have to drop a few dimes to find some other churches to rip off.”

“Now he’s way too full of himself.”

You have a point there. Almost “Spielbergian”.

Tom Hanks was one of my all-time favorite actors until he associated himself with this garbage. Now he's just another Hollywood ho. Next thing you know he'll be dissin’ his wife of 20-30 years to hook up with a 20-something bimbo.

Robin Williams is the over-rated one.

I can't say. Every movie that he's been in has been pretty much crapola, so I haven't been able to bring myself to see even one, except "Good Morning Vietnam". I was dumb enough to believe the marketing hype about that one. He pretty much played a weak sister version of himself in it.

I'm of the opinion that Jack Black, Queen Latifah, and Will Farrell are overrated, among many others.

Yeah, it only took in a measly $758,239,851 in worldwide box office. A complete flop.

Da Vinci Code opened to $77M in its opening wkend in Mid-May 2006, but it had shot its wad by Memorial Day. Grosses dropped by almost half, and the 50% freefall continued week after week for another month. It ended up clearing $200M domestically ($217,536,138 to be exact), but it never was the cultural phenomenon that it was hoped it would be.

I think the fact that it made twice as much worldwide than it did in America is a pretty good indicator of where the rest of the world is and where America is.

If Opie and Hanks can focus on one religion and trash it, what’s to stop them from doing it to others, or all religion?

The same can be said for several people post regularly and a hateful length post on this forum about a religion other than Catholicism. A truly pitiful lot. And they call themselves Christians, too.

It’s the “Citizen Kane” of neighborly-shenanigans comedies. I’ll never get tired of that movie.

Ron Howard directed one of his first movies (Cotton Candy) at my high school.

Was Cotton Candy that TV-movie about the battle of the bands between a group of nerds who played pop tunes versus an arrogant, long-haired guitar slinger who played a metallic version of "I Shot The Sheriff", and used pyrotechnics?

If so, I watched that movie. It was silly, but I remember enjoying it.

That would be the movie.

It was silly, but it was really fun to have it filmed at my high school. Basically, we didn’t get much school work done for 2 or 3 weeks. It was one of the highlights of my time in high school. I was lucky because I got to be an extra in the movie. Also, the cast members hung out in the band hall practice rooms. I was in the band, and we would hang out with them. We were all into music, and they would sing and play music with us.

Ron Howard’s mom was also very nice. They were filming at a local mall (Town East), and my girlfriends and I went to the filming. We saw her eating lunch, and said that we went to Lake Highlands. She invited us to sit down with her, and she talked to us for a long time. She’s always in his movies.

He is one Hollywood person that I do not think bad of. He and his family were just too nice to all of us.

Well, thanks to Green Screen Stage, CG 3D Virtual Sets, and techniques in SPFX, the Vatican may have just saved the Production Company MILLIONS in Production costs, and cost Italian Crew Personnel, as well as local businesses a considerable sum.

The FICTIONAL Movie will still be made, and with the Vatican’s help, it may just have a smaller budget than originally slated.

I couldn’t care less about the production company and all the rest...the bottom line is that we are exposing the anti-Catholic bigots wherever they may be...including on FR.

Good day.

Oh OK, so simply pointing out that this latest move will do little or nothing to stop the movie being made makes me an “Anti-Catholic Bigot”

Gotcha.

You have a Good Day yourself.

Hey, genius, I didn't call you an "anti-Catholic bigot" and its still a free country, so anyone can produce whatever they like as long as it's legal... or didn't you know that. LMAO
