John McCain's short list for VP assumedly still includes one name that should be scrubbed immediately. Florida Governor Charlie Crist is not worthy of the honor and McCain would be wise to drop him hard and fast.
Crist knowingly and deliberately violated the rules and bylaws of both the RNC and the DNC by holding Florida's presidential primary prior to February 5th, 2008. He is guilty of stealing votes from the citizens of Florida and needs to be held accountable, not rewarded.
It should not matter if you are a Republican, a Democrat or an Independent. Americans cannot allow our state legislatures and our governors to conspire to rob us of our electoral voice. Crist knew the party rules, he knew the consequences of his choice and yet, he still signed the bill which cost the Florida Democrats all of their delegates (until recently) and the Republicans one half of theirs. He was even given 30 days to change the date and he still chose to take his stand against the voters.
This act of election manipulation should be considered criminal, not commendable. The fact that he publicly denounced the DNC instead of accepting responsibility for his own failing is sad at best. The citizens of Florida did deserve to have their vote count, until he stole it from them. If he had any integrity, Crist would own up to his mistake and resign his post.
If McCain wants loser governors on his short list, he should add Governor Jennifer Granholm from Michigan. After all, she did the exact same thing to Michiganders that Crist did to Floridians. Like Crist, she conspired with her own legislature to steal the vote from her own people. Like Crist, she has blamed just about everyone but herself for defrauding her own citizens of their vote. If nothing else, she can blame her stupidity on being a liberal from Canada. What is Charlie's excuse?
Although the DNC finally caved and allowed delegates to be seated at the upcoming convention, the citizens of Florida and Michigan still have every right to be angry over losing their respective party delegates. The problem is, they are mad at the wrong people. They need to take this issue directly to the source, their own elected officials. They need to make sure their state governments don't defraud them again. Meanwhile, John McCain needs to make sure Charlie Crist stays in Florida to take his medicine.
Plus, much talk has it that he’s “light in the loafers” which wouldn’t go over too big with most conservatives and evangelicals.
Sorry but I don’t think “party rules” trumps legislatures. There was more to the story in Florida than just changing to thwart party rules.
That being said...yeah, Crist is totally unacceptable as a VP choice.
1. Americans stop thinking emotionally.
2. Americans stop listening to NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, NYT, WP, LT.
3. Americans start learning history and the Constitution.
4. Americans start turning off sports and stupid TV shows.
5. Americans learn that Chritians and Conservatives are not the enemy.
PS This is what we have been saying at the FreeRepublic since the beginning. So why do you ask the question?

As far as McCain's inner circle of friends... none of them are fit for VP.

Our founders (not the leftists) repeatedly stressed the need to keep religion out of the political sphere.

Far as I can tell living a thousand miles from Florida, Crist has been a good governor. The gambit on the Florida primaries, supported overwhelmingly by both parties in the Fla legislature has been a pearl beyond price this primary season. I wouldn’t change a thing,
I wonder what this guy’s real complaint against Crist is. Whatever it is, I don’t think this unknown blogger is going to have much impact on the selection progress either way.
Besides, Crist stood by and watched Terri Schiavo be starved and dehydrated to death. Crist - booo!
I live here in Florida and I have mixed thoughts on Crist. I am not happy that he has bought into the global warming nonsense or his hardball approach to home insurance providers (which, predictably, has caused many to pack up and leave).
On the other hand, he has done very well in taking a chain saw to state and local property taxes. This has pissed off every municipal employee union and court house politician from Pensacola to Jacksonville to Key West, both Republican and Democrat.
I agree that Crist should not be on the short list. I think he is a slime for interferring in the Republican Primary and endorsing McCain just 2 days before the important primary in his state. I think he should have thought about it and endorsed him in a more timely manner, and not manipulate people’s emotions.
I am actually in agreement with your tagline, but I do want to comment on the statement you made. In the past 30 years, we have essentially owned the White House (except for Clinton), and have help majority of the House for almost the entire second half of that period. It is hard to say tying religion to politics has led to failure. I would say abandonment of small government ideas is what led to failure. We won the House in '94 of limited government and reform. We lost it when those ideas were forgotten.

Please Governor 'Orange Skin' is not gay. Just because he is unmarried is that he had a wife - and they divorced a year later. Some people aren't cut out for marriage, I was and the best thing I got from it are my kids. Never again, thanks.

How True!! I am not a CHURCH GOING CONSERVATIVE, I am not a SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE (which means I don't care what you do in the privacy of your bedroom , as long as it is legal.). I am a LIBERTARIAN Conservative - a small government, low tax person. Religion is not what I based my CANDIDATES on, that is why Huckleberry was not a choice for me - and he was a SOCIAL CONSERVATIVE, also.
BMW, you are wrong. I believe that is why the Republicans can't grow, and that is because of RELIGIOUS party. Sorry, I have to disagree with you - IT IS NOT ON THE PARTY MEMBERSHIP FORM To have a religious view.
