Obama Admits Smoking Cigarettes in Last Few Months

ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: Senator Barack Obama told reporters in St. Louis today that he has fallen off the wagon and smoked cigarettes in the last few months.

The presumptive Democratic nominee has been open about his smoking past: Once a heavy smoker, he publicly gave up the habit, per his wife’s request, to run for president.

Since quitting, Obama has indicated in the past that he has “fallen off the wagon” but before today was not specific about how recent his smoking was.

“Months,” Obama said of the last time he has smoked.

Obama regularly chews Nicorette while not at campaign events, and the recent release of a doctor's note from his primary care physician indicated that it has brought him a level of success.

“His own history included intermittent cigarette smoking,” David L. Scheiner, M.D. wrote in a letter released to reporters. “He has quit this practice on several occasions and is currently using Nicorette gum with success.”

Not lying — if the by “with success” they mean “getting a regular nicotine high”. /Clintonian parsing

Exactly, they can smoke, drink, have money, fly personal jets, live in giant mansions with 6 fireplaces.....but you can’t.

Or he’s actually done both and the success from chewing the gum, is that he smokes less...

Who would vote for a Presidential candidate who’s obviously got one leg in the grave?

Which candidate are you talking about?

That would be anybody that’s voting for either of the main candidates. You’ve got a smoker on one side and an old guy with a history of skin cancer on the other.

Nobody ever really quits smoking, might put a few years between cigs, maybe even decades, but all ex-smokers are one crappy day away from “hey can I bum one of those”.

“he publicly gave up the habit, per his wife’s request, to run for president.”

That’s about as loaded a sentence you can expect from the media about Obama.

He gave it up PUBLICLY, which means he still does it PRIVATELY.

His wife asked him to quit so that he could run for President. That tells you who’s in charge.

And he did so to run for President. That shows what a phony he is.

As a 30 year smoker of cigarettes, it’s not that simple.

Especially, if it was not HIS choice to quit. Which it appears it was not. In order to quit, and be successful, one has to want it. It has to be his decision, and he has to go cold turkey. The gum and patch(s) or whatever are not quitting.

If he doesn’t want to quit, he’s not going to. And it looks like he doesn’t want to.

So Obambi, stand up and be a man. Tell your wife that you enjoy smoking and it’s your choice. Tell the media to mind their own damned business and you’ll smoke whenever and wherever you like. But, we know that Obambi is a coward and has no balls. He will knuckle under and step and fetch for his wife and the media and any other group of aggrieved.

In the case of McCain, you can at least hope that his successor would be a good choice.

At least he can afford them if he's in NY.

I myself have been clean for 127 days today.

I've heard that if you can recall the exact date and/or time of your last cig/drink you will never be able to quit.

(shrug)

This admission must be to prove that he cares about “the kids” and supporting healthcare for our nations children through his purchase of tobacco.

Being sarcastic here.

“Months,” Obama said of the last time he has smoked.

BS! He's probably sneaking a puff as I type.
