Hillary Clinton's campaign said she would end her campaign for president at an event in Washington, D.C. Saturday.
Clinton will "thank her supporters and express her support for Senator Obama and party unity," the campaign said in a statement.
The campaign initially planned a Friday event, but rescheduled it to Saturday in a second statement, in order "to accomodate more of Senator Clinton's supporters who want to attend."
Clinton delivered something approaching a victory speech Tuesday night, just minutes after the media reported that Senator Barack Obama had clinched the nomination with a majority of the pledged delegates. But reality began to sink in Wednesday, as party leaders, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, declared Obama "the nominee" and close supporters like Harlem Rep. Charles Rangel lost patience with her delays.
By the afternoon, as she made plans to end her campaign's operations, a question of whether she would drop out and endorse Obama was rapidly turning into matters of choreography and psychology, questions of what form the inevitable would take.
A Clinton aide said that Clinton was also planning a New York homecoming with Rep. Charles Rangel, a key African-American supporter.
Clinton had convened a conference call with congressional supporters Wednesday to plead for time. Instead, a Clinton backer said, her supporters laid down the law: Time had run out , and she needed to leave the race this week.
Clinton's dropout drama had no chance of changing the outcome of the primary, as the Democratic Party began to close ranks behind Obama. But it did compete for attention with Obama's win.
Now, Obama has two more days to pay his respects to her and her supporters, though he has indicated that he doesn't consider the threat that they'll defect en masse to GOP Senator John McCain a serious one.

She’s keeping her delegates for the convention. I don’t think it’s just to hear her name placed in nomination.
Hillary could paraphrase Mark Twain, the rumors of my political death are quite exaggerated by MSM and Barry butt boys like the NYT and the Politico.
I personally think that even now, her people are sitting down with his people, showing them what they’ve got on him and will release if he doesn’t see the light and make her his running mate.
Friday...Saturday...
What a difference a day makes...
Girlfriend...keeping us in suspense..
“ending her campaign” doesn’t mean what most people think it does.
I’m a little perturbed at the “media” for making a big deal out of this. What we inquiring minds want to know is WHAT IS SHE GETTING OUT OF THE DEAL? VP! Sec. of State? HHS Sec.? WHAT? That’s the REAL news here and once again, the “media” is failing to do its job.
After a nine-course State Dinner, featuring Grilled Fillet of Beef medallions sided with imported cepes and mushrooms, drizzled with Vin Rouge and Balsamic reduction, and potato cakes and vermeil flatware, gold pintuck silk tablecloths, sprays of white phaeleanopsis orchids with camellia foliage in the historic White House vermeil candelabras in the East Room for visiting Korean President Lee Myung Bak, a chorus of singers from the US Military Forces, top name entertainment, and final speeches and toasts by the heads of state before finishing for the night, President and Mrs. Obama escort Vice President and Mr. Clinton to the North Portico door, seeing them off, and that pair have to leave the White House they once occupied, not able to go upstairs to the family quarters which they feel they so richly deserve, but back to the Naval Observatory quarters. Second Fiddle for a Sociopath.
Could this dysfunctional woman (and man) even go through with that public and private humiliation, event-after-event at the White House, for eight long years?
She would snap, I swear, a corpuscle in her brain would burst from jealousy and anger. I don't think she would be able to contain her envious rage, nor would Bill for that matter. A real "two-fer". It would be one of the most pitiful, but perhaps even dangerous things to view in American history.
This would be the most rocky President-Vice President relationship perhaps in US history.
Also, Freeper Constitutional experts out there: The Vice President is also selected by electors in the Electoral College. What constitutional provisions are there by his or her FIRING by the President? Could a constitutional battle be triggered if Obama tired of her, or worse yet, had been politically threatened by her or worse in her unsatiatable thirst to become Commander in Chief, and attempted to remove her?? Everyone knows she would fight tooth and nail. Probably she would just run against him again in 2012. One wonders.
For Obama's staff and the man himself, they better realllllly think this one through over the weekend.
The official term is “suspending”, the shoe hasn’t dropped yet.
Pay attention, people.
He's right. It isn't, and it portends ill tidings, both for us, and for those very people who will be treated the same way that McCain treats Conservative voters within the GOP. - with disdain.
The VP can only be removed by a formal ratified act of impeachment.
Alone, the President is powerless to do anything of the sort.
Hmm, one can only hope...
I don’t buy it. Trial balloon. Why would she drop out? Barry is the “presumed” nominee. Superdelegates can change their minds.
Others Obama shoes can drop. More preachers. Rezko. Michelle tape (if it exists).
Like our Mormon candidate also suspended but not actually quit?
Waiting for the first guy to say,
“She WILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! be the nominee!!!!!!!!!! PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She CANNOT BE STOPPED!!!!!!!!!!!!! She WILL!!!!! be PRESIDENT!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Waiting...
I believe that the VP can only be removed from office by a process of impeachment, trial, and conviction similar to what is prescribed for removal of a President.

Maybe, but if he gave up his Delegates he ended it. She’s not going to do it.
Which Saturday?
