Guns campaigner stabbed to death

A prominent anti-gun campaigner has been stabbed to death at a flat in West Yorkshire.

The body of Pat Regan, 53, was discovered at the property on Marlborough Grange in the Hyde Park area of Leeds on Sunday.

Mrs Regan, a mother-of-six, started campaigning against gun crime after her son Danny was shot dead in 2002.

A 20-year-old man, a family member, has been arrested. Police said post-mortem tests would take place later.

Mrs Regan's son Danny, 25, became involved in criminality and was shot at his then home in Haydock, near St Helens, Merseyside. His killer has not been found.

Following the death of her son, Mrs Regan set up a Leeds branch of Mothers Against Guns.

She had previously met government officials to discuss how to tackle the problems of gun and gang-related crime.

Dee Edwards, co-founder of campaign group Mothers Against Murder and Manslaughter, said Mrs Regan would visit schools and give talks about the dangers and consequences of getting involved in crime.

She said: "She made such a big difference to so many people's lives. This is an absolute tragedy for so many people."

Mrs Edwards said she had known Mrs Regan for about six years and described her as the "most incredible woman".

"It's just the most dreadful news for everyone. She's just an amazing woman," she added.

In 2004, Mrs Regan led a rally through Leeds city centre to campaign against the increase of gun crime.

Her campaigning work was praised by Princess Anne during a visit to the city earlier this year.

Would she be pleased to know that her 20 year old assailant (a family member no less) heeded her work and didn’t use a gun?

How sad for her family and friends. How useless, pointless and counter-productive her life work.

I mumble something about bringing an anti gun activist to a knife fight.

She might be alive today if she’d had a gun and used it. Of course, she’d also be in jail, GB being what it is.

I thought the UK was a gun-free utopia. How can this possibly be? There are no guns. Guns are outlawed. Therefore there are no guns. No guns = No crime.

Who are they trying to fool with this “news” article?

Tragedy and Irony, reported on by the BBC,
If only she had a gun, she’d be alive like me.

She sould have set up a group for Mothers That Raise Children Not to be Criminals
It was the boys lifestyle and choice that got him killed.
I will resist the oppurtimity to joke about an anti gunner being stabbed to death

Somehow I can’t work up much grief for her passing. The only thoughts that come to mind are things like: good riddance, should have happened earlier, one less idiot in the world, and should happen to more of them.

I guess she learned the hard way that the problem is “bad people” and not the particular weapon they use.

Maybe she should have campaigned against violence instead of just guns. Her son got in with the wrong crowd and payed the price,

Well, at least she can thank her lucky stars she wasn't shot to death by one of those awful guns! That would have been a REAL tragedy.

I guess she should have better used her time to start a group called MAK, (Mothers Against Knives)if there isn’t already one in the “ban everything” UK.

Even if Brits end up eating with their fingers naked, they’ll still be able to strangle each other or beat each other to death.

The last thing to be banned will be fighting back to defend yourself, anyone with defensive wounds will find themselves in jail, the liberal logic being that if you just curl up in a ball and take it the beating wouldn’t be as severe.
