What is it with government that it can't grow and shrink with the times? Businesses do it all the time. In fact, some of this is their own doing: failing to regulate the financing of homes at little to no-down created a bubble that has now come back to bite them.

Were they asleep behind the wheel? More likely, they are just inept. Well paid and inept. The things government can't do well are endless. If anarchy weren't such a disorganized sh*t-fest, one could justify it in face of the rampant waste produced by 'government'.
