ID Theft at BoeingMonday,
November 21, 2005 | 6:55 AMNovember 21, 2005 —

Officials made a disturbing announcement from Boeing that could impact workers in Ridley Township.

The company says a Boeing employee’s laptop computer has been stolen. It contains personal information on 161,000 employees, including sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, birth dates and banking account information.

A spokesman for Boeing said Saturday that personal information from the 4,500 workers at the Ridley Township plant may be included, but that official couldn’t say for sure.

Wow. That is a great find.

It is well known that money is one of the top incentives to treason. Bad guys could have used the bank account information to identify people in financial trouble, gamblers, underpaid, disgruntled, etc. - also from the “personal information”.

Bad guys could also have used stolen information to substitute a fake employee with the same credentials as a bonafide employee - or even “add” an employee (or a group of them) and put the data back afterwards and the switch was never noticed.
