You should see the central Dallas Public Library. It’s like a refugee camp for crazy street people. And it’s so convenient right across the street from Dallas City Hall where they all sleep and beg.
As I understand it, it is illegal to ban street people from public libraries. Some sort of civil rights thing, I guess...

This is what happens when we give “rights” to the most vunerable. They are taken out of protected havens and expected to manage with social workers checking in.
This kind of thing happens almost daily, it doesnt get a lot of press. The MR and mentally ill take a lot of abuse.

I know one town that fixed the problem by moving the library.
When we complained about the library being used for a flophouse, one of the politicians responded “Where should they go then?”. One of our guys responded “How about here in City Hall?”. They hated that idea.

Here's an 8 year old attacked when the grandma was watching the 2 and the 3 year old -- the parents were both at work at the time. It devastated her entire family. It was so bad the family, Chinese immigrants, now need help:

The facts in this case are really egregious. And it can be laid at the feet of the ALA as the library would have had filters but for the ALA's actions even after the ALA lost in
US v. ALA.

FreeRepublic says, "Please: NO profanity, NO personal attacks, NO racism or violence in posts." Perhaps you should take your own advice in consideration of these simple rules.

I think you are right. Such a case (
Kreimer v. Morristown) went to the US Supreme Court. I know a librarian involved in that case who got shafted by the American Library Association.

I’m confused too....
You have an MR teen who can’t communicate well being left alone in the library? She shouldnt’ be left alone anywhere-— where was her family? Her guardian etc?
If her communication skills were so poor, what was she doing at the library unassisted? And yes, how can they tell when or where the event happened if she apparently was alone for such a large part of the day?

Libraries are funded by taxpayer money and private donations. They should be answerable to the people who contribute instead of telling people where to get off. Libraries are one of our first bastions of socialism. As such, we end up serving them.

You are right. But I don’t know all the facts yet, so I don’t know.
