“They must have one heck of a test for the guys that volunteer for the subs.”
There is extensive psychological testing but I don’t remember any of the testing having to do with claustrophobia. Maybe it was covertly tested.
I have a nephew who volunteered for the boats but after he was aboard for awhile he non-vol’ed on his own, so he says. Apparently he says he has claustrophobia. Well, he is my sister’s son and she had it so I would not be surprised. On the other hand, he was the most spoiled brat I have ever seen. It could be that he just couldn’t take the psych pressure or the “qualifying” work load since he had been coddled all of his life.

You sub guys really have to have your stuff together...no way out (my fear. I can't handle stuck anywhere, even traffic), no fresh air, no windows (portholes), no place to be alone. My hats off to you all. I can just imagine a spoiled brat in those conditions. Not nice for those around. And thank YOU for your service in "the boats".

Thanks txradioguy. I will miss the BDU. I don't like the ACU because of all the Velcro. It sticks to everything.
I have been through several uniforms in my 35+ years. The old “green banana” uniform was my favorite.
If they would have used a brown tee shirt instead of the white one, I think it would have lasted longer.
The jungle was the worst up until the ACU. The slanted pockets were not solider friendly.
