WASHINGTON - Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean said Monday that either Hillary Rodham Clinton or Barack Obama must drop out of the Democratic presidential race after the June primaries in order to unify the party by the convention and win the election in November.
But Dean didn't say which candidate should drop out, only that it should happen after primary voters have been to the polls.
"We want the voters to have their say. That's over on June 3," Dean said in an interview on ABC's "Good Morning America."
Dean also said that while the party rules say Democratic superdelegates can wait until the party's August 25 convention to make up their minds, that would be too late to unify the party and defeat the presumptive Republican nominee, John McCain.
"We really can't have a divided convention. If we do it's going to be very hard to heal the party afterwards," Dean said. "So we'll know who the nominee is and that'll give us an extra 2 1/2 months to get our party together, heal the wounds of having a very closely divided race and take on Senator McCain."
Dean said he won't have to tell either Clinton or Obama when it's time to leave the race.
"Either of these candidates, if it's time for them to go, they'll know it and they will go," Dean said. "They don't need any pushing from me. You know when to get in and you know when to get out. That's just part of the deal."
"This is not about Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama," Dean added. "This is about our country. It's about a better course for our country. ... We've got to move on and win the presidency."
Obama has more delegates and popular votes than Clinton, but she is also fresh off a big-state win in Pennsylvania.
Dean said that "none of the so-called party elders I talked to" think the contest should go until the convention. "I agree with that," Dean said.
"We've got nine more primaries ... Five hundred of the 800 unpledged delegates have already said who they are for. The remaining 300 will do that by the end of June and we'll know who our nominee is and that's what we need to do," Dean said on NBC's "Today" show.
I’m thinking of making a ton of 48 stars and stripes flags and going to Denver in August to sell to the conventionites!
The supers that are ELECTED dhimmirats are praying to whatever they pray to that they won’t actually have to vote,
because they know they’ll enrage half of their constituency by making the choice.
Though I wouldn’t put it past the Dems from using this as a stunt to change the electoral college, what they have is the popular vote right now with their proportioned delegates. I just think it super-duper with their SD’s (isn’t that one letter short of the Clap) being able to ignore their popular vote.
I have no idea why the AP does what they do, and I don't usually defend this ilk, but one is a maiden name (Rodham), and the other is a middle name (Hussein). In current journalistic styles, maiden names may be used, whereas middle names typically are not used to refer to someone.
There it is ......Hillary has the nomination IMO.
So which one of them gets picked to get taken for a ride in Teddy Kennedy’s car?
;-)
and the Red State Update agrees: http://www.sitemason.com/newspub/fQKJvW?id=56117
Ever noticed that Dean looks like Barney Rubble?
Dean, the idiot, speaks nonsense again. I wish they’re both drop out but...
I read somewhere that LBJ wanted desperately to get rid of J. Edgar Hoover as FBI director.
Until he had a little chat with his former next-door neighbor.
Johnson then named him FBI Director For Life, stating that he’d “...rather have him inside the tent p#ssing out than outside p#ssing in.”
I think you’re right. Wasn’t it Hilliary who wanted to do away with the electoral college in favor of popular vote???
But, the AP referred to President Bush during his two campaigns as “George Walker Bush” or “George W. Bush”. Yes, I realize what his father’s name is. But, if the middle name is not important, then it wasn’t needed with President Bush either.
Oh, don’t make me hope...
If that happens, the democrat party will be destroyed.
Have any of us spoken to our black democrat friends? They are livid with the Clintons. They're finally waking up to the fact the Duet-from-Hell are the fascist liars they've always been.
The democrats cannot win without the black vote. And Dean and every other democrat knows this.
“Operation chaos” at it’s best. Hehehehehehe
If Hillary manages to beat Obama somehow, Howard Dean will be fired and replaced before the November election.
1. Howard Dean does not have the power to force his wishes on either of these candidates. Both of these candidates appear to be financially independent of the DNC.
2. The status quo is not going to be substancially different on June 4th than it is now. So I wouldn’t expect a sudden change-of-heart by Obama or Clinton.
Therefore, this will go to the convention.
When Hillary wants to stress her roots in the sisterhood, they use “Rodham,” which stresses her independence from husband Bill. Whenever she wants to appear the dutiful wife or stress her Clinton identity, it is omitted.
“Hussein” is a pejorative. With that middle name it can't be otherwise.
Obama has been getting clobbered in the press for a month now. Hillary hasn't had any bombs dropped on her since the Bosnia remarks, which have been all but forgotten under the landslide of anti-Obama stories and Republicans pimping for her.
Obama is terrible, but Hillary is worse. He's an idiot. She isn't. And this Marxist shrew will run right over hapless Johnny McCain this fall. And the press coverage will alternate between adoration and worship.
