Iron Man Robert Downey, Jr.: Not a Liberal Anymore
KyleSmithOnline.com ^ | April 27, 2008 | Kyle Smith

Thanks to Libertas, I noticed a New York Times interview in which “Iron Man”’s Tony Stark, Robert Downey, Jr., admitted that though he doesn’t say it too loudly at dinner parties, he’s a conservative. This is a pretty big catch for our side: consider that Downey’s father, who made the radical underground film “Putney Swope,” was one of the most celebrated leftists in the film world in the 60s. Says Downey Jr:

“I have a really interesting political point of view, and it’s not always something I say too loud at dinner tables here, but you can’t go from a $2,000-a-night suite at La Mirage to a penitentiary and really understand it and come out a liberal. You can’t. I wouldn’t wish that experience on anyone else, but it was very, very, very educational for me and has informed my proclivities and politics every since.”

I am sure some of the decisions(ie hard drug use, alcoholism) he has made in his life has caused him to take a hard look at where he was coming from. I say good for him.

Downey has been a train wreck for years. Let’s hope he now sees the light and can do some good with that new knowledge.

Andrew Breitbart just told the Friends on Fox that a bunch of Hollywood stars are coming out of the conservative closet this summer and will show their support for McCain...he named two, Angie Harmon and some girl on The Hills. He also mentioned Robert Downey, Jr.

Just finished a good book called “Red Star Over Hollywood,” which traces the communist infiltration of Hollywood. Unfortunately, it kind of stops at the 50s and doesn’t really explain WHY these people were reds.

Barak Obama is the new Putney Swope.

The guy who runs Breitbart (sp) was just on Fox & Friends speaking of this. The teaser was how many Hollywood celebs are really conservative. Steve asked him to mention them. He said he couldn’t out them all but mentioned Angie Harmon, which I already knew about, the young actress from The Hills Heidi something and Robert Downey Jr.

He said Move On and the Huffington Post are one reason for their outing and the fact that Mccain is not really a conservative. Duh. In other words, they wouldn’t be coming out for Bush or Romney.

I read this awhile ago but am still confused. What does going to jail have to do with abandoning liberalism? I thought it was a right of passage.

"I am sure some of the decisions(ie hard drug use, alcoholism) he has made in his life has caused him to take a hard look at where he was coming from. I say good for him."

After witnessing my Husband and others obtain sobriety, I am not surprised about Robert Downey,Jr. When Downey was speaking of addiction he said something to the effect that it was "Like having the barrel of a gun in your mouth, and liking the taste of gunmetal." My Husband agreed. When someone comes to such a realization, it changes them.

Now that Downey has blasphemed against Hollywood orthodoxy, how long will it take for producers to start claiming he’s not a very good actor?

I think Downey’s quote is implying that he was leading an elitist, wealthy, self-indulgent lifestyle with ZERO personal accountability. (And he probably got to this point because of his upbringing.)

His drug addiction and his legal problems changed all that.

"Andrew Breitbart just told the Friends on Fox that a bunch of Hollywood stars are coming out of the conservative closet this summer and will show their support for McCain"

There is just SO MUCH wrong with that statement... Starting with: McLame is not a conservative. It's not much of a leap for them to go from uber-liberals to promiting a fake conservative- either way they get a democrap elected
