Security has been increased at a Simpsonville middle school after a student was arrested and suspended for wearing a T-shirt with a noose and a reference to the Ku Klux Klan.
Greenville television station WYFF said some students at Bryson Middle School stayed home Friday, fearing violence after the T-shirt worn by an eighth-grader angered both black and white students the day before.
The student lifted another shirt revealing the racist T-shirt in the lunchroom.
The student has been charged with disturbing school and recommended for expulsion.

Although I feel the t-shirt was offensive, I do not believe this student should be expelled from school just for wearing it. Students bring weapons and drugs to school and are not expelled for it.

I understand the scholl not wanting the shirt on campus. I don’t get the “arrested” part.

That blanket statement is incorrect. There maybe instances where a student somewhere in the U.S. has not been suspended but there have been many reports of students suspended for anything school administrators consider close to resembling a weapon.

The right to “FREEE SPEECH” means even if it offensive to some.
The PC movement is no doubt clouding the minds of some here.
Free speech is what our brave troops are defending in Iraq.

Sorry I disagree. You are on taxpayers dime. It’s offensive to them and the school has the right to do it what it pleases. I do not think the kid should go to jail, but when you are in a school. You follow their rules. Just think of it like work. When you go to work you can wear whatever you want. However, it may get you fired. Does not mean you will go to jail. Just fired.

“The KKK is supporting Barack Obama.”
That would be “Operation Kaos,” then?

The underlying rule regarding free speech in this country applies neither to adults nor to children. This rule, known as the first amendment, refers to congress, and, by extension, other government bodies. Child or adult, it doesn't matter, neither is addressed by the first amendment; it's GOVERNMENT that is prohibited from making rules regarding free speech. Since it's the GOVERNMENT that runs the school to which the pupil goes, the relevant fact is that it's GOVERNMENT which is prohibited from abridging his free speech.

I doubt this kid even knows what the KKK and noose really mean. If he does know, then he needs to visit a psychiatrist. Several times.

How about a kid wearing a Che t-shirt?
You have a constitutional right to free speech, not a constitutional right NOT to be offended.
