PADUCAH, Kentucky - The trial of a former U.S. soldier charged with raping a 14-year-old Iraqi girl and murdering her and her family near a checkpoint near Mahmoudiya, a village 20 miles south of Baghdad, Iraq, has been delayed by two weeks to accommodate a quilt show.

The legal system in this country is way past out-of-control. This unspeakable scum is the lowest human being I've been exposed to for a very long time. And please spare me the 'Innocent until (Long Delayed) proven guilty' thing.

By all means, stone him now and the h&ll with a trial. We all know he is guilty, guilty, guilty. No need for evidence; no need for Miranda rights, no need for lawyers, etc.

(There, I feel better for venting all my sarcasm.)

Quilting is the primary income producing industry in the area.

In the quilting world this is one of the biggest shows each year. Th hotels are booked up to two year in advance for 50 mi all the way around. No wonder they had to postpone, there just isn’t enough room and there would be a lot of very angry quilter’s who put out a bunch of $$ to go there.

I agree. The Padducah show is one of the principal annual shows in the Quilting industry. If you don’t believe it is an industry, check out the numbers of magazines at your local magazine stand on quilting. I know of at least 7 magazines and I subscribe to two of them. Think of it as comparable to the big computer shows they have in Vegas.

True, I believe it has already been proved that this happened from the other plea deals. This POS should be shot asap.

"He pleaded not guilty in November 2006."

I am all for constitutional protections but this is what has me going. It is now almost 1 1/2 years since the initial pleadings, as far as I know there is incontrovertible evidence against this scum and yet this is delayed that long - And delayed yet again.

To boot, think of the thousands of attorney hours that have been accumulated in 'Defending' what I think is a slam dunk case and as horrific, evil an act as I've seen.

Pardon my rant, no sarcasm intended.

This is not some small quilt show. This is 5 day event with major quilt classes, quilt show and vendors.

This American Quilter’s Society Quilt Show is the “Westminster” of all quilt shows and it is “always held” during the 4th week and weekend of April every year.

The Best of Show Quilt winner wins at least $10k (it might be up to $20K now)

More info can be found here on the show...

Do you get to go to the Paducah AQS show?

I go about every other year because I am only about 2 hours away from it.
Sadly I won’t be going this year as I went last year.

Why do you say that. Just because this scum was able to get into the military (And was relieved due to some Psych problems) doesn't endow him with some kind of infallibility.

No, I'm not Murtha. He IS a traitor who uses military mistakes and difficulties for political gain and to undermine the troops and the War effort. I AM hard as nails against any member of the Military itself who does the same.

This guy and his co-defendants not only did these things but they perpetrated an unspeakable evil.

So why your comment?

I’d suggest you give the court an opportunity to process the case before hauling the guy out for a hanging.

Fine but why the absurd passage of time. In order for real IMO justice to be effective it should be objective, transparent and efficient. This case fails on at least one of these aspects.

I suspect that next we'll hear, reported on page 42 or so, that the charges were dismissed or reduced significantly - Once the spotlight is off this horrific act.
