I thought that maybe Democratic Underground sold FR one of their old servers with the “special software”.

It's a bit more complicated than that. In the basement of the CIA's Langley headquarters, there sits a room from which Free Republic emanates. On one side of the room is a plain gray metal door. When you unlock that door and step into the next room -- you're in Democratic Underground.

Is that a TRS?

I used to do Profile databases on a TRash-80, Model II. It was the first computer I ever used. It had 2, yes, two 8”-floppy drives, and whopping 64k of memory. Each floppy would hold 160k (IIRC).

First computer I ever owned was the Commodore-Plus4.

The computer/keyboard, monitor, printer, and 2 floppy drives cost around $2500. It had 84k memory (IIRC).

Why are 'glitches' called computer 'bugs'?

This is a picture of the first actual computer 'bug' and, thus, the origin of the term computer bug:

It might have been 128k with 84k reported “free.”

In high school computer lab, we would rush into the room and fight over the one and only Trash 80 that had the “64K” emblem. The rest were slow ones, they had only 16K. The losers got stuck with those.
