Is Vista a huge improvement over XP?
I am happy with XP and have no reason to upgrade.
Plus, new MS OS’ are usually resource hogs.
Running it on six PCs (at home). All networked (5 wired, 1 wireless).
I joke that I hang around my brother’s house whenever he is upgrading his PCs. Usually end up with a nice PC.
My wife isn’t happy, though.
Teach her Freeper Canteen Music, she will come around. :^)
No, I honestly don't think so. An incremental improvement in a lot of ways, yes, but you are absolutely correct about this sort of thing being a resource hog. I might change my mind about it tomorrow but at the moment I'd say that if you have a significant investment in 32-bit software and in peripherals that don't advertise "Vista-ready" meaning that they have signed drivers, then I'd stick with XP. If you're buying new hardware, Vista's certainly worth a try.
There's some very significant changes percolating nicely in the Linux world at the moment that are overshadowed by this affair. Playing with Mint 4.0 at the moment and it's kinda kewl. At work I just upgraded an older Mac to Leopard and it's definitely up to its press, I think. Lots of good stuff happening.
