It's not that they are "brown", or "white", or "black" or East Asian in appearance ~ rather, they have recently gotten into the practice of overtly rejecting and resisting totalitarianism.
Neither the Rev. Wright nor the Palestinians, or most Arabs, reject totalitarianism. It seems a normal way of life to them.
Some people are more comfortable “under the thumb” - it means they aren’t responsible for their own lives,
and their current situation cannot be blamed on their own decisions.
