RE: It was stained by this nation?s original sin of slavery (text from Obama’s speech

Comments like this genuinely offend for another reason. My great-great grandfather went to war to end slavery. If my ancestors never owned slaves and put their lives on the line to end slavery, how exactly does this "original sin" argument apply to me?

Slaveowners have been dead at least 75 years so it’s irrelevant.

Your ancestor went to war to stop the South from seceding.

The North did not invade the south to stop slavery before secession when they could have had slavery been their primary motivation.

but you have a point....the end result was the preserving the Union and ending slavery
