John McCain Pulls Ahead in Ohio: Leads Both Obama and Clinton"
National Ledger ^ | 3/15/08 | Keith Walters Jones

Posted on 03/17/2008 6:32:25 AM PDT by freespirited

What happens if the presidential election comes down to the state of Ohio again this November, just like in 2004? Democrats seem stumped in the south, and Florida might be completely out of the running. As weak as the Republican Party is at this point in history, it hasn't seemed to translate to John McCain.

It appears that he may have bucked the Republican Party enough that he seems to come off as just clean enough in the minds of many voters that are fed up with the GOP. Add to that the fact at least half the country despises Hillary Clinton and now Barack Obama is being slammed with scandals.

In one recent Florida poll Obama trails McCain by 16 points in Florida. Sixteen points! Hillary won't win Florida either. That means we may be right back to the 2004 scenario of Ohio, Pennsylvania and Missouri being the key to the 2008 election. Missouri will likely go to McCain no matter which Democratic candidate he runs against.

Pennsylvania would likely be a Hillary win but Obama could lose there as well. That means we are back looking closely ate the Buckeye state. A new poll gives McCain the edge in Ohio. According to the latest poll from Scott Rasmussen McCain has a slight edge. He lead Obama by six points and Hillary by the exact same margin. The poll shows a 46-40% edge for the Arizona Republican.

I can't imagine why.

Don’t believe the polls for a second. McCain is not thought well of in Ohio.

LOL—well, the more Wright and Obama open their fat yaps, the narrower the choices. I have said for a long time I won’t vote for McCain, but y’know, after seeing what Obama is about, if Obama is the ‘Rat candidate, I might. Self defense voting, so to speak. (And all this time I thought he was an empty suit—now we know his suit IS full...of hatred, among other unmentionable things...)

I really think McCain is a terrible choice for conservatives, but honestly: if thinking people engage their brains, they could NEVER EVER vote for either Democrat.

Obama and Hillary are atrocious choices—anyone with a mere modicum of intelligence will come to that conclusion.

McCain isn’t the best, but he shines like a diamond compared to the two Democrat jokers.

As I have said many times: Barack McGovern Obama here we come!

This business about “McCain not being well thought of in Ohio.” is foolish talk. McCain in a national landslide. The quicker we accept this, the quicker we can start planning a November strategy based on reality.

I agree-—I’m here in Dayton. But his opponents each have huge disadvantages, and neither gains what the other loses. Hillary is generally hated by, I think, a majority of Ohioans, but if she steals the nomination from Obama, I KNOW that some percentage of blacks will sit out in anger. On the other hand, Obama will pull close to 100% of the black vote, but alienates the “hillbillies” who, no matter what they tell pollsters, are not ready to vote for a black president.

Yup, I hear that Republicans in general aren't thought well of these days in OH. But he doesn't have to be thought well of, he just has to be seen as preferable to the socialist RATS.

Believe it or not, for most of the to-the-right-of-the-far-Left Americans, the fact that Obama's mentor of 20 years hates and damns America is far more important in deciding whether Obama should be made Commander-in-Chief than than the fact that McCain may have pissed them off about this or that other issue.

Your own mileage may vary.

Two backpackers on the hiking trail come around a bend and are confronted by a huge and very hungry grizzly bear licking his chops at the lunch that just showed up.

One backpacker puts down his backpack, pulls out a pair of Nike running shoes from the backpack, takes off his hiking boots and starts putting on his running shoes.

"Don't be a fool", says the second backpacker, "you can't possibly outrun a grizzly bear. We need to come up with a better plan"

"I like this plan just fine", the first backpacker calmly replied. "I don't have to outrun the grizzly bear. I only have to outrun you."

By the time McCain faces the death of a thousand smear attempts, he will be doing well to equal Dole’s performance.

If George W. Bush survived both Al Gore and John Kerry, John McCain, who survived five years of torture at the Hanoi Hilton, can survive either Obama or Hillary.

Can't reply more fully right now.

Doesn’t matter much to me who wins any longer. I’ll see the same Socialist mess with all three, likely worse with McCain than the other two as the Republicans in the House and Senate will feel obliged to go along rather than fight their own party as they did with the prescription drug mess.

Agreed.

Allowing Obama to surrender the military control of the Persian Gulf region that contains 70% of the World's known oil reserves to Iranian Islamist religious nutjobs who are actively seeking nuclear weapons and the ICBM's to deliver them to U.S. soil and who believe that the suicide-martyr destruction of a few million Americans will get them an Eternity in Paradise is much too trivial an issue to even consider in this election.

He's not thought well of here in Arizona either, but he keeps winning elections.

It seems there are advantages to being In or out. when you are in you can use the government to achieve your ends(SCOTUS nominations) etc. when you are out you can easily mobilize the opposition. I am thinking that with McCain in we can have the best of both worlds. We have a man who will have to build bridges to us and who has a 85% conservative voting record. But, on the other side we have someone we don’t really like or trust so we will be mobilized ourself to do massive opposition if we need to. Seems sweet doesn’t it. On the other hand given is age and health he will probably drop dead and then we will hav really good Conservative President in Pawlenty or Sanford.

I agree. However the real question is do Ohioans think more highly of him than of Obama or Hillary.

I suspect that it will be close.
