ABC News' Teddy Davis Reports: House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos on Friday that it would be "harmful" to Democrats if superdelegates were to give the party's presidential nomination to a candidate who is trailing in the delegates awarded in primaries and caucuses.
"If the votes of the superdelegates overturn what's happened in the elections," said Pelosi, "it would be harmful to the Democratic Party."
Although Pelosi offered her assessment without directly referencing Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., her comments lend considerable support to the Illinois Democrat.
Obama leads Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., in pledged delegates: 1,396 to 1,241. Because of the proportional system used by the Democratic Party to allocate delegates, Obama is widely expected to remain in front of Clinton in pledged delegates at the conclusion of the primary season.
Political prognosticators give Clinton more of a chance of catching, or even surpassing, Obama in the national popular vote but Pelosi argued that superdelegates should follow the pledged-delegate, not the popular-vote, leader.
"But what if one candidate has won the popular vote and the other candidate has won the delegates?" asked Stephanopoulos.
"But it's a delegate race," Pelosi replied. "The way the system works is that the delegates choose the nominee."
Pelosi's comments to Stephanopoulos, which were made in Washington, D.C., air Friday evening on ABC News' "World News with Charles Gibson."

Do it Nancy. There’s a big train wreck coming and I want you in the front.
Yes, and Obama seems to be winning in landslide proportions states that he’ll have no chance of carrying in November.
Color me surprised.
It’s like Rush said on his show on Friday: Nancy Pelosi doesn’t want ANOTHER Queen Bee in Washington getting in her way. Pelosi is firmly in the Obama camp.....Pelosi has no use for Hillary.
Go Obama! He deserves to get the nomination and we ought to do what we can to make sure he does.
If the SD’s are harmful to the RAT party why do they have them?
I think the RATS gave the SD’s so much power because they don't trust their idiot base to have the final say on the candidate choice.
Now that the SD’s may have to make a choice the DNC don't want them to because their idiot base will riot and set fire to the convention.
yep,,two queen bees would be unacceptable to nancy.
Am I suppose to answer that?
She is definitely Obama Backer otherwise she won’t be hung up on ‘Delegate Count’.
The Pastor-Gate has assured that Hildabeast would take the Popular vote count.
Maybe not......we shall see.
If the RATS make Hillary Majority Leader, she'll be in Nancy's way a lot more than she'd be if she became president.
LOL.
‘Course not ... just a whole lot o’ serious happanin’ t’day.
Libs like Nancy Pelosi cannot see the forest for the trees. I honestly believe thay have no idea how the Jeramiah Wright rantings have played on TV in the hinterlands of America.
Today I was at a GOP district convention in Minnesota, and the consensus is that this event will doom the Obama candidacy. I have some doubts about that, at least within the Democratic circles. They are such dimwits, and are so far left thay cannot comprehend that most Americans love their country, and are not amused to be castigated and condemned by the likes of the Rev. Mr. Wright.
If the Democrats insist on nominating Barack Hussein Obama, and now I sorta hope they do, since I don’t want Hilary either, I think we just may have a good chance to hold onto the WH. If the GOP had any sense at all, they would hammer away this fall at the very real lack of concern the Democrats have for national security, energy independence, and down right decency. The good Lord has given us a gift. If we do not use it, we have only ourselves to blame.
Amen to that. And here’s an opinion I posted on an earlier thread, just to say...
If he doesnt die in the interim, its Juan McCain in a walk over either rat. Obamas toast and Hillary is too well hated.
The rats are well and truly you-know-what in this election. If McCain picks a relatively young, relatively conservative running mate, its over. Hell pick up most of the conservative base, the hispanics and a whole bunch of rats.
I am getting the impression, though it certainly would be denied, that a lot of people in high place don’t like Hillary and are acting against her knowing how vindictive she and her
crew is.
