But if they’re French should they put (D) for droit, if he’s on the right?

Hillarious.

CNN tonight is desperately holding onto the Spitzer story trying to avoid the Obama/Rev. Wright racist landmines going off all around them.

Must be Christmas Eve in the trenches of 1917 somewhere.

Obama's "pastor" is racist? It can't be. He is Black, isn't he? /s

Yeah, discussing a racist Dim must be more difficult than discussing a disgraced NY "Republican" governor...

I used to have a link to the online AP style book, but don't know where it got off to. But I think you are probably correct, on both counts.

Thanks for the ping.

AFP makes AP look moderate in reporting.

Since it futher says:

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer (R) holds a news conference in New York City with his wife Silda by his side, on March 10. Spitzer came under mounting pressure to resign Tuesday, a day after the Democrat crusader once known as the "Sheriff of Wall Street" was linked to a prostitution ring.

I think they meant Republican, since there would be no reason to point out his position in the picture unless someone could or would mistake which one was the wife.

There’s a vendor at the local fair/carnival events that still calls them Freedom Fries.

If that was the goal, AFP isn't very good at it. Spitzer is described as a Democrat in the second sentence of the caption.

If getting the facts straight isn’t important to you, then ignore me. I’ve been around this place — and the blogosphere in general — long enough to know that if “facts” like that aren’t corrected early on, they’ll make some list of AP sins and crimes that will circulate for all eternity.

OK. I can live with that. :O)

Actually, I'm quite familiar with both news services. It was just a typo!

The newspaper where I worked in the news photo dept had both AP and AFP. They dropped AFP eventually, and I really missed it once it was gone. They send photos that AP either does not get or chooses not to put on the wire. Some of the most graphic photos of Mideast violence were moved by AFP. AFP was a real pain to use though. We had a system called Merlin that archived all of our photos, both the ones we took and the wire photos. AP photos moved in Merlin without out intervention, but AFP had to be manually loaded and the software was like something out of the early 80’s.

It's amazing how many hundreds and hundreds of photos move on AP every single day. I miss that part of the job, being able to sit there and peruse the photos.
