Sex Diseases in Many Gay Men Go Unfound, Experts Say
New York Times ^ | March 13, 2008 | Lawrence K. Altman

Many cases of sexually transmitted diseases are escaping detection because gay men are not being tested each year as advised, federal health officials said Wednesday. And if the men do show up, the officials added, many doctors and clinics are not following screening recommendations.

But more cases could be detected if the government approved new ways to use a type of DNA test that is already on the market, the officials and researchers said in a news conference at a scientific meeting in Chicago.

They said the test, used in new ways, could detect twice as many cases of gonorrhea and chlamydia as standard tests.

Those diseases, along with syphilis, whose incidence continues to increase, are “a major threat to gay and bisexual men’s health,” said Dr. Kevin Fenton, a top official of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Fenton noted that such diseases increased the risk of contracting and spreading H.I.V., the virus that causes AIDS.

Screening for sexually transmitted infections is a critical part of medical care for sexually active men. The C.D.C. recommends annual blood tests for H.I.V. and syphilis, and other tests for gonorrhea and chlamydia.

Gonorrhea tests should include specimens from all potential sites of exposure — throat, genitals and rectum — because identifying and treating all such infections is essential for preventing spread of the disease.

Instead of conducting all sorts of annual tests on gay men, probably at government expense, why don't we encourage them to change their behavior?

I wonder if Obama went to the doctor after meeting Larry Sinclair.

The diseases are self-correcting when the patient dies.

Depending on one's promiscuity (and this is true of heterosexuals as well) once a year may be far too great an interval. Once a month, maybe. More often if one's tendencies are toward nightly anonymous passive anal intercourse with multiple partners in a bath house.

There's a message here. If it's killing you, stop doing it.

“Sex Diseases in Many Gay Men Go Unfound, Experts Say”

Why would any sane person want to actually be the one who physically has to ‘look’ for them? It’s a health risk for the DOCTOR to examine these guys.

I also wish we could get them to modify their behavior as well, if not for the reasons I think are right, how about for their own self-preservation and physical health?

Here’s the next subject matter to be covered in public schools.....toss out American history.

Bush's fault. Somehow.

So why aren’t they being denied health insurance for poor lifestyle choices?

Or would that only happen of they were fat or smoked?

Yes, but as a doctor you don’t tell the guy with lung cancer to keep smoking because the disease is ‘self correcting’ and hold the belief you are being a good doctor. You try to get the person to realize what he’s doing is killing himself and to modify his behavior. Maybe he will, maybe he won’t. I’m not for taking pleasure in seeing these guys die the way they do, I’m just not surprised at the fact that they do die the way they do.

This is kind of like the Catholic Church being pressured into accepting gay seminary students on the promise that they remain celibate...a big fat "YEAH RIGHT"

Yes, but they want to maintain the lifestyle and want someone else to pay for a cure for something that is 100% preventable. Lung cancer is a side affect of smoking. It is not caused by the smoking itself.

WA State Legislator Jamie Pederson needs his checkup after the latest bill he sponsored gives queers 150 more legal rights because according to him “Domestic partners still lack the vast majority of the protections that married couples take for granted in Washington State”. Pederson stated the new law is the next step in addressing that injustice. WA state has always been the bastard stepchild of CA. Whatever CA does the westside lawmakers make sure the WA follow instep. Now we’re looking more like MA. Bleah!

Did I miss a recent study? Smoking is the main cause of lung cancer. Just like alcoholism causes cirrhosis. Does everyone get it? No because of genetics and other factors, but there is a strong causality, strong enough to say that smoking does cause cancer, alcoholics will blow out their liver, etc. These are lifestyle choices. Just like homosexual behavior. You stop drinking, you can save your liver if you’re not too far gone. You stop smoking, you may be able to dodge lung cancer. You stop gay sex, you may be able to avoid AIDS and other stuff.

I do agree with you they want someone else to pay for their self-inflicted illnesses - but it’s more than that. They want us to subsidize their lifestyle choice (in a way, it’s a form of acceptance of what they are doing).

“Many cases of sexually transmitted diseases are escaping detection because gay men are not being tested each year as advised...”

There is only one solution. The government must step in and FORCE these men to get tested. Gay men will have to show proof of testing before being allowed into bars or clubs.

Yup, that’s the ONLY answer, that is...

So which Democrat “nanny-stater” will take this ball and run with it? After all, it’s “for their own good”!

For advocates of anal and oral sex...read this:

Extracts from
The Other Guy’s Sperm: The Cause of Cancers and Other Diseases

Donald E. Tyler, M.D.
Ontario, OR: Discovery Books, 1994

(Buy it here)

Book description (from amazon.com)

Paperback, 134 pages with bibliography

The theory of sperm causing diseases presented in this book takes on momentum with cannibalism and organ transplants found as causing diseases. Sperm ingested orally or injected into a rectum is cannibalism; and their invasions of membranes and tissues of genitalia and urethras are equivalent to transplants. The essence is the entrance into one’s body of cells of another individual. Sperm invade the delicate linings of the internal and external genitalia of both men and women, enter blood streams, and go to all parts of their bodies.
Kuru, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD), and Gertsmann-Stussler-Scheinker syndrome in humans, scrapie in sheep and goats, and bovine spongiform encephalopathy in cows are diseases with some clinical aspects in common including neurodegeneration. Anthropologist Robert Glasse connected kuru to gastronomic cannibalism by women and children [in New Guinea], avoided by adult males due to the belief that cannibalism ‘robbed a man of his vitality.’ Incubation periods are notably long, with 30 years common in kuru and CJD.
In this book sperm of the other guy are postulated as the cause of many diseases all over the body including cancers. Experimental, clinical, and epidemiological evidence in support is presented.
Precursors of sperm have a tremendous stimulus to divide producing 100,000,000 to 300,000,000 sperm per ejaculate. The union of a sperm with an ovum produces rapidly dividing cells that can result in a 6 to 10 pound baby in 9 months. The unidentified factor that causes cells to divide decreases in amount or activity in each division of offspring cells until there is no weight gain at maturity when cells die at the same rate they divide. Sperm invading cells other than ova accounts for rapid uncontrolled dividing of cancer cells. DNA of sperm is undifferentiated, capable of producing any type of cell. Sperm, invading cells other than ova accounts for all characteristics of malignant cells including their uncontrolled dividing, invading, having abnormal numbers of chromosomes, and being undifferentiated.
Reaction of a host body to invading sperm can be similar to its reaction to bacteria and viruses. In most instances there is no disease at the site of sperm entry. Entry-site diseases include mucoid and purulent discharges diagnosed as gonorrhea and nonspecific urethritis and sores diagnosed as herpes, chancroid, or syphilis.
Sperm and their parts invading a body are the equivalent of transplants of any and all cells or organs. Antibodies attacking the genes of the sperm, probably at times attack corresponding cells and organs of the host. That is a probable cause of ‘autoimmune’ diseases including most arthritis, diabetes, thryroiditis, and lupus erythematosus.
Roles of sperm in AIDS, urinary infections, congenital and inherited defects, atherosclerosis, and bestiality are presented.
