Apparently, they haven't heard about Ithaca's taxes. That "affordable" little house will set a senior citizen back nearly $6000.00 per year in property taxes alone.
Perth, Australia
Two thumbs up. But both countries are getting highly selective about who they let in - great for residents, not so great for would-be immigrants.
Chile is worth a long look, too.
Coos Bay, Oregon
THAILAND??
We’ll outsource our retirees to India.
Manila? Cebu or Cagayan de Oro City has it all over Manila... I’ll rent you a new 2/2 duplex in a gated community for P20,000/month in CDO and get you a maid/cook for P5,000 , P8,000 if you want a young and pretty one,,, I’ll even buy dinner at www.spookscdo.com for you...
Getting selective? They(Au) wouldn’t let me in in the 80’s with a job lined up in their defense industry
I was watching my Field Of Dreams DVD this weekend. This DVD had alot of extras and one of them was a feature on that field and how people can just show up there and play baseball, hit, field and catch and generally goof-off.
whats the Peso to the USD these days?
I’ve heard Australia is even worse now than five years ago. New Zealand will still let you in as a Skilled Migrant if you do something they need, but you’ve got to jump through lots of hoops first.
Unless you're a diabetic, in which case you can't buy health insurance unless you work for a company. Ergo, work until you are 65 to fund social programs for the illegals, die or get out.
So far the only states I've found where insurance companies will sell health insurance to diabetics are Washington and North Carolina. Right now it's looking like Eastern Washington is going to get another right wing Cali unless someone has a better idea. NB, I reject the libertarian assertion that I should just go away and die quietly bankrupt.
Sigh.... we are the only folks that let in unskilled migrants
Ithaca is unbelievably cold, which is hard on old bones. And the snow and ice make falling easier, breathing more difficult.
Orlando? The crime rate has become appalling. I wouldn’t let an elderly relative of mine even visit there unescorted, much less move there. Gangs have become a serious problem.
I’m thinking Aiken SC.
Ithaca, NY? Pretty cold winters plus NY state tax is no bargain. What you save in housing is shifted to taxes.
After spending my last three Florida years (7 years in NC since) there, I have to say that Gainesville is only good if you care nothing about a living in a family-hating, God-hating city that worships one thing: The University of Florida Gators Football team. My least favorite place I’ve lived, ever, and that includes the Tampa area (over 13 years); Melbourne, FL; Tallahassee, FL; Khamis Mushayt, KSA; Gainesville; and Wilmington, NC. (Not necessarily in that order). The ONLY good thing Gainesville has going is that it is the home of Sonny’s BBQ.
All the above is IMO, YMMV.
Dumbest list I have ever seen.
I suggest Sussex County, Delaware. Ocean, farms, southern culture, tax free shopping, low property taxes, tax breaks for 65 and over on property taxes and pensions.
Two hours from Baltimore, Washington, Philadelphia, and a ferry ride from Cape May, NJ.40 minutes to Ocean City Maryland.
We wish you and the other Paultards would move ASAP.
I might settle for anywhere I can't hear the nearby homes blasting the boom box/woofers. Hate those annoying low penetrating bass tones when trying to fall asleep.
