American Professor, Ousted From DePaul University, Declares Support for Hezbollah in Lebanon

CHICAGO — An ousted American political science professor who believes some Jews have exploited the legacy of the Holocaust recently expressed his support for the terrorist organization Hezbollah.

Norman Finkelstein, who resigned from DePaul University last fall amid criticism of his opinions on the Holocaust, told Lebanese television that his view of Hezbollah is "rarely heard" in the United States.

"I have no problem saying that I do want to express solidarity with them, and I'm not going to be a coward and a hypocrite about it," Finkelstein told Future TV. "I don't care about Hezbollah as a political organization. I don't know much about their politics.

Hezbollah, funded by Iran and Syria, engages in terror operations worldwide. President Bush and other U.S. leaders view the organization as an opposing force to peace in the Middle East, and it is listed by the U.S. State Department as a foreign terrorist organization.

Finkelstein’s support for Hezbollah would be illegal if he were helping raise funds for the organization, said Richard Miniter, a terrorism analyst with the Hudson Institute.

“If terrorists are able to use his name to fundraise in any way, that would be illegal,” said Miniter, who added that only Al Qaeda has killed more Americans than Hezbollah.

I was wondering how long it would take before this story made it to FR.

It's nice to see what some academics say once they have the "freedom" to do so.

Or as a CNN political analyst.

“I don’t care about Hezbollah as a political organization. I don’t know much about their politics.”

So basically he just supports their killing of Jews. Nice.

He supports a terror group without knowing much about them.

So why does he support them?

You’re right. Sounds like an Obama voter.

Ecclesiastes 2:17-18

17So I hated life, because what is done under the sun was grievous to me, for all is vanity and a striving after wind.

18I hated all my toil in which I toil under the sun, seeing that I must leave it to the man who will come after me,

Yes, and after B. Hussein bin-Obama is elected, Mr. Finklestein can be Head of the Ministry of Middleast Relations. At least until the Arabs find out he is a self-hating Jew. Then they will kill him.

He is. It’s baffling, to say the least.

"American Professor, Ousted From DePaul University, Declares Support for Hezbollah in Lebanon"

Methinks yon perfesser should demonstrate his support by going to Lebanon and joining said islamonazis so he can be there when the next Mossad mission explodes on the scene.

Good thing it wasn’t he who was in the Holocaust. You’ve heard of survival of the fittest? Well, it’s not him.

Take this dumb ass to the town square, put him in stocks and throw rotten veggies at his sorry ass.
Then stone him on national T.V.

At the Fox link there's a video link to the entire interview. I urge all to check it out.

He's a strange guy, and argues forcefully, mostly logically, but sometimes not.

Per your quote above, what he means (as is clearer in the video) is that he isn't backing Hezbollah politically, but he is recognizing and honoring their "right" to act in self-defense against the Israelis invading Lebanon.

Of course, Finkelstein fails to mention (and the interviewer doesn't bring it up either) that Hezbollah instigated the invasion by sending rockets and missiles into Israel. THAT'S the big logical fallacy in Finkelstein's argument.

Finkelstein dismisses that by saying, in effect, that the Israelis were waiting for any pretext, and had prepared for war. (As if that in itself condemned the Israelis to be seen to have caused the war).

He also makes the basic mistake in his argument of reaching to Hitler and the Nazis for analogies. That's never convincing, always ugly and over-the-top, in just about any argument -- especially here, where he implicitly compares the Nazis to the Israelis.
