Ron Paul's Legacy: The Well Being of the Constitution

I worry about my country. I think the Constitution is hanging by a thin thread. I think by the time Congress and Bush and McCain get done, we will have totally open borders, no immigration laws being followed and tax burdens that will break us all. I believe that the National ID will put us under the thumb of the government to the point of us all becoming criminals in the eyes of the powers that be.

I see guns available only for the criminals, but law abiding citizens will not be able to own them. I see colleges that are unable and unwilling to teach our kids anything but the liberal/socialistic/dare I say Communist way of thinking.

I see Ron Paul, fighting for America and the Constitution to the bitter end. Within ten years, I see Ron Paul's speeches being listened to by people that were to young or too deaf to hear them before. It's this legacy that Ron Paul will always be remembered for.

I agree 100%, but Ron Paul burned his bridges with rational people on his first speech after 911 and he continues to echo that insanity.

I chuckle at all the Ron Paul campaign commercials here in Texas. It seems that Ron Paul does not mention a peep about his position to gut the military and retreat from a defeated Al Qaeda in Iraq. No mention of those items here in Texas. I wounder what his Vermont campaign commercial was like?

Misdirection seems to be the primary style of those who attack Paul.

As I have pointed out on other threads, Paul’s ideas were mainstream conservative policy not so long ago.

And yet, here we are...John McCain cares more about getting his lawn watered and lettuce picked cheaply than he does about the Constitution.

"I’m asking (see post #1) who else quotes the Constitution besides Ron Paul? Geez..spin it."

Everyone can and does quote the Constitution, even the RATs.

However, I see your issue.

Yours is a typical cult like quote like "Ron Paul is the only..."

That’s just disturbing as hell. A lot goes on in jails that people don’t have a clue about, though.

So where is liberty’s champion? I never regarded Ron Paul as perfect, but no one else (outside of little-read books, FR, and a few blogs) cares to articulate what I consider to be the central issue of our day: the steady erosion of individual liberty in the US, and the concomitant growth in the welfare state and its twin brother, the police state.

"As I have pointed out on other threads, Paul’s ideas were mainstream conservative policy not so long ago."

That is based on the false assumption that there is a split among Conservatism.

I have always been a Conservative, even before Ron Paul became a libertarian Congressman from Texas. Nothing has changed about Conservatism, only the attempt by others to make it so. The only problem is people who claim to be Conservatives, i.e., Juan McAztlan, GW, etc. Even Ron Paul admits to being a libertarian, thankfully to us Conservatives.

It is libertarians who try this idiotic PR spin on Conservatism.

Oh, you mean like what I see on FR a lot now, “John McCain is the only.... plausible choice for a conservative voter”?

I’m a bit concerned about the well-being of Ron Paul’s mind.

"So where is liberty’s champion?"

My Congressman John Carter and many others like him are champions of liberty. They are far more effective as Congressman and have solid positions on 100% of the other issues, unlike a libertarian who has fatal positions on the most important issue facing us today.

Ron Paul 08' is a fad and a cult. It is time to get back to reality.

If Ron Paul is the fringe and liberals like the GOP has served up for us this year are the ‘mainstream’, then I proudly stand with the fringe.

I really wonder about the agenda of individuals who save their worst condemnations for the one guy who actually adheres to his oath to defend the Constitution. In particular, I wonder if they have any place in the right-wing coalition, or whether it is imperative that we eject such people with haste, fervor, and no ceremony.

Your kind is to blame for the McCain fiasco, and I hope when the Democrats win, you get to take it up the shorts day after day, year after year. Your endless slander of a good man is only the outbound of a karmic round trip.

No, you need to go back a little further. History didn’t start when you were born.

Paul is ideologically similar to the old right of Robert Taft, Clare Boothe Luce, Frank Chodorov, Albert Jay Nock, Garet Garrett, Howard Buffett, and many others. They were the opponents of the New Deal and the Korean War, and were the most vociferous opponents of Communism.

Why does this strain of conservatism seem foreign to many conservatives now? You have Nixon and GWB to thank for that.

Our one party system of government, (the Big Government Party, with its Democrat and Republican wings) have turned up the heat in the skillet a little too fast. Some of us frogs have begun to notice.

AND WE’RE HOPPING MAD!! (Sorry I couldn’t help it!)

I can see a legitimate point of disagreement with his foreign policy, but his record is great on the Constitution. At least one dude like that in the House of Representatives is a necessity. America needs a couple more, as a matter of fact.

No, that I deeply doubt, if we lose badly in November, the Country Club and indeed NeoCons will disappear, leaving only the meat of the party, including those who adhere their views to the Constitution will not let Ron Paul’s run fade into that night.

Ron Paul nailed his fate with conservatives and mainstream Republicans due to a number of things: key issues, his newsletters, fringe group support, quotes on 911 and from Sinclair Lewis, ineffectiveness in Congress, etc.

He and his followers can wrap him in the US Constitution all they want. I have seen a lot of underirable people try to wrap themselves in either the Bible or the US Constitution throughout my life and they are still undersirable.

In six months no one will remember wRong Paul. Doubly so if he loses his Congressional seat.

ROFL. No one is going to remember McStain once he loses to Hillary/Obama.

I was going to post the same comments almost exactly.

His legacy will be truthers, apologists and isolationism.
