I am deeply disappointed the Republican Party seems poised to select a nominee who did not support a Constitutional amendment to protect the institution of marriage, voted for embryonic stem cell research to kill nascent human beings, opposed tax cuts that ended the marriage penalty, has little regard for freedom of speech, organized the Gang of 14 to preserve filibusters in judicial hearings, and has a legendary temper and often uses foul and obscene language.
I am convinced Sen. McCain is not a conservative, and in fact, has gone out of his way to stick his thumb in the eyes of those who are. He has sounded at times more like a member of the other party. McCain actually considered leaving the GOP caucus in 2001, and approached John Kerry about being Kerrys running mate in 2004. McCain also said publicly that Hillary Clinton would make a good president. Given these and many other concerns, a spoonful of sugar does NOT make the medicine go down. I cannot, and will not, vote for Sen. John McCain, as a matter of conscience.
But what a sad and melancholy decision this is for me and many other conservatives. Should Sen. McCain capture the nomination as many assume, I believe this general election will offer the worst choices for president in my lifetime. I certainly can't vote for Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama based on their virulently anti-family policy positions. If these are the nominees in November, I simply will not cast a ballot for president for the first time in my life. These decisions are my personal views and do not represent the organization with which I am affiliated. They do reflect my deeply held convictions about the institution of the family, about moral and spiritual beliefs, and about the welfare of our country.
Needed to say this a couple weeks ago.
I think 3/4 of this country is in the bag for Obama either through voting for him or staying home and letting it happen.
I have been an admirer of James Dobson for many years, but was really irked when he trashed Fred Thompson back in the fall, going so far as to question the genuineness of his faith.
If these are the candidates in November I will NOT vote Republican or Democrat but as a matter of conscience I will WRITE IN DUNCAN HUNTER!
Maybe between now and November, we can get a “None Of The Above” on ballots.
His comments were inappropriate and should have never made such statements.
Oh, grow up, Dobson. If you can’t vote for one of the Big Two in good conscience, at least get off your arse and cast a protest third-party or write-in vote.
Well said DR Dobson
Well Said
So we should all do the “PRINCIPLED, CONSERVATIVE” thing and support Hillary or Obama.
A classic “ends justify the means” way of thinking.
And total BS.
Rush has good comments today on McCain's extreme dishonesty.
Huh, Laura does not support McCain??
Agreed. With Roe likely at 5-4 now, and two Pro-Roe SCOTUS Justices almost certain to leave or pass away by 2012, the stakes are too high.
Gotta hold your nose and vote for whoever gets the nod. Duke it out now in the primaries, of course; but McCain would almost certainly mean the overturning of Roe, even if we got little else from him.
Affirmative Action, Roe v. Wade,.....so many just EARTH-MOVING decision that could be made right. The stakes are soooooo high.
Consider the alternative:
Two forty-something, Marxist judges who’ll serve for the next fifty years and pretty much cement another full generation+ of mandated abortion radicalism.
McCain looks great in comparison. Maybe not to folks who seriously think that immigration is the ONLY issue that matters anymore, but he does.
Plus, McCain will reign in spending. Even a hater has to acknowledge that much.
Gotta suck-it-up and not be blinded by hatred.
You have the right to write in any one you want!
But besides getting an emotional kick, there is no practical benefit to write in Duncan.
Dobson is right on McCain....and a McCain nomination would be tantamount to the GOP starpping on explosives and blowing themselves up on election day.
Granted, he should have stepped up earlier and supported a conservative candidate....but ending up w McCain will turn the GOP into Whigs
Best thing for the GOP is to have McCain get out. The illegal alien amnesty lobby is not worth losing conservative support
Staying home is surrendering. Vote third party or write in Duncan Hunter.
