I've worked with Bobby. Great coach; if my son were a basketball player I'd like him to be coached by this man.

Probably has the best record in NCAA for kids in his program graduating from college. And heck, what’s a chair or two thrown at the right guy?

Lubbock is where I live and we have been happy to have Coach Knight as our head bb coach at Texas Tech. One of the best coaches in the system.

We Texas Tech fans now support Pat Knight 150%.

Thanks Coach for the memories.... I am honored to have been at all of your games here in Lubbock and Saturday was the last one we saw you coach. It was my honor to have my son and grandson with me in the stands.

I’ll bet he quit as a bet on the Superbowl game. I suspect that he quit so his son, Pat, would be coach at the end of the year making it harder to fire him as opposed to just not hiring him if BK quit at the end of the season.

Knight accomplished the near impossible task of making a sport interesting. His temper added a spice to the sports world for us non fans. I've liked him since I was a kid, mostly for his temper, and I loved "a season on the brink."

And yes, I'm totally serious about this post. I think he's a great guy and IU screwed up big time by letting him go.

Didn’t know about this till I read about this on the internet a few minutes ago. I geuss Bob Knight wants to spend more time hunting and fishing. Maybe he can get a show on the Outdoor Channel. As an Ohio State grad we always had a great rivilary with Indiana when he was there (I remember one night back in the late 80’s I went to the gym on the night of the IU-OSU basketbal game and the gym was almost empty). But we always had great respect for IU under Knight. People would always advance IU in their March Madness brackets when Knight was at IU simply because of Knight’s coaching ability.

Good riddance. It is bad enough that players think they are above any rules of behavior, but when a coach conducts himself as Knight has, it is even worse. I don’t care how much of a winning coach he may be, but I do care how his tempermental behavior sets a bad impression for the young.

Do we not have enough of a breakdown in civility without someone like Knight adding to the problem?

“...during his coaching career, which began in 1965 at Army, all but four of his four-year players completed degrees, a ratio of nearly 98 percent.”

That’s huge. Bobby Knight is a polarizing person, certainly with his detractors and supporters, but as a father of a collegiate athlete, that’s ultimately what I am concerned about. I was thrilled this year when my son’s team sent all of the parents the top ten team goals for the year - academics were the top three goals.

“When Coach Knight tells me to jump, I get in the air and wait for further instructions.” - Steve Alford, All-American at Indiana University under Bobby Knight.

And, Alford could barely “get in the air” when he jumped!

I’d have him and his family over for dinner. I’d serve him well.

He’s a bully and a prick.

I’d love to see him mouth off to somebody his own size and get humilated.

20 years since he's won a title, and that was at Indiana not Texas Tech.

If I had a wish for a kid with talent I'd want him to be coached by John Wooden.

I always thought Knight to be a rough task master for the lads, but if my son had the skill to compete, I sure would have wanted him in Knight's program. He's likely had recalcitrants over the years, but if they stayed with with him they would graduate. Parents would know the darlings had the best chance to graduate without having extra curricular problems.

I believe Knight relished the bad press. For most of his career, his school's fans could enjoy the ride. I wish he had spent most of his career at Minnesota rather than Indiana.

Bobby Knight was as a great a teacher as ever coached any college sport. The great teachers teach one thing. Do as I say not as I do. He was an emotional jerk of the highest order and yet, his players conducted themselves oppositely, with class and dignity. His teams worked hard and played by the rules even though Coach Knight bullied those officials who oversaw him into allowing him to conduct himself under his own rules. I can name more than one highly respected Division I coach who were very successful and had the opposite reputations of Knight and were always commended by their peers as nice guys and gentleman. Those coaches had players that were out of control embarassments. The question which faces athletics today is does big time athletics build character, and you look around and see lawbreakers, cheaters, and spoiled egomaniacs. The greatest college basketball player of all time was Bill Bradley. This 6’4” white guy took an Ivy League team to the Final Four. The greatest job of coaching that I have ever seen was Knight’s last NCAA Championship team, only Bob Knight could have won a championship with that meager talent. This forum used to appreciate individuality and toughness. I do not know if Bob Knight votes or if he belongs to a political party. My guess is he is a conservative, it has been documented that he was a fan General George Patton. The one thing that is for sure, he is a dinosaur in the United Nanny States of America.

Word from the Texas Tech Chancellor last night is that Coach Knight will step up his fundraising work for the University.
