While we're on the subject of liberals making scapegoats of people, if you ever read Evans' book on McCarthy you will read that it was not "Protestant America" but Roman Catholicism (McCarthy was Catholic) which the liberals made into a big bugaboo, even making a big show of defending Protestants when one of his staffer (a Protestant himself) allegedly "attacked" them. Believe me, as one of FR's most notorious "anti-Catholics," I take no pleasure from this observation!
At any rate, your attitude towards Rabbi Kahana' is every bit as groundless as the attitude of most Jews to McCarthy.
Perhaps you are confusing him with the lamentable Irv Rubin, the pseudo-conservative “Republican” who took over the US JDL after Rabbi Kahana’ moved to Israel. Unlike Rabbi Kahana’, Rubin did indeed have a problem with the American heartland at once burnt a Confederate flag.

You may have me on this one. But the point remains the same. Despite the provocations of the JDL—under Rubin—there was no “Christian” backlash.—as there should have been — had the leftist view of America been true.

This may be so. Certainly, JFK’s father Joe Kennedy believed that McCarthy was right. But by the time I got to the upper west side of Manhattan in the 1970’s liberal distrust had moved on to all things christian.
this had more to do with Nixon’s HUAC than with McCarthy. The communists were active in Hollywood all through the 40’s. When the showdown with Nixon’s HUAC came in the early 50’s—Nixon won the early rounds but ultimately America today resembles more the communist vision than that of HUAC.,
