State of the Union
State of the Union 2008 President Bush will deliver his State of the Union address on January 28, 2008. Whatever the form, content, delivery method or broadcast medium, the President's annual address is a backdrop for national unity. The State of the Union gives the President an opportunity to reflect on the past while presenting his hopes for the future to Congress, the American people and the world.
Bush Presses Congress on Economic Package
"Presidential spokeswoman Dana Perino said Friday that Bush will use the annual speech, the most high-profile one he delivers each year, to generally challenge the Democratic-led Congress to complete its "unfinished business" and "demonstrate to voters back home that they are able to get things done."
"Remember," she said, "2007 was labeled the 'do-nothing Congress.' Hopefully in 2008, there are some things that we can get done."
Perino also said that one focus of the State of the Union address will be new policies that Bush plans to put in place without congressional involvement, through executive orders or other administrative action. Some involve measures aimed at helping with housing crisis that is tamping down the economy, she said.
"On a parallel track while waiting for Congress to get off their duffs and do something about it, the president decided to ask his advisers, what can we do here from the executive branch?" Perino said.

From "Our Enemies From Within" department:
Dems Try To Pre-Empt State of the Union Address
Congressional Democrats, trying to have the first word on President Bush's State of the Union speech, challenged him Friday to renounce use of waterboarding in interrogations, close Guantanamo Bay to detainees and outline new policies toward Pakistan and Iran.
Domestically, Democrats said they expect Bush to invest more in the development of renewable energy and to support any compromise Republicans and Democrats strike to renew a law governing the president's secretive surveillance program.
*snip*
Pelosi opened her speech with an acknowledgment of the political context in which Bush will deliver the last State of the Union address of his presidency.
"Let's hope this is our last Democratic pre-buttal, that next year, we will have a Democratic president," Pelosi ad-libbed at the top.

That 2nd pic is one of THE most knowing and expressive faces of the many faces of our savvy President... LOL.
(Bets on how many Democrats will be tripping over themselves to get to the center aisle to get noticed by Pres. Bush, engage him, get him to laugh, kiss him, pat him on the back and shake his hand. I'm going to say at least 15.)

A gentle reminder:
Just think how little you'd know about President Bush, his activities and decisions, the actions of Congress, the good news from the WOT, and ALL the news you WOULD NOT know, if not for FREEREPUBLIC.COM. Please support this haven from the MSM by donating as much as you can to the First Quarter 2008 FREEPATHON! You can put it over the top!!
Hi.
Washington, DC,01/26 - The White House announced Friday that United States President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush will visit five countries in a one-week tour of Africa next month.
The trip between February 15 and 21 will include stops in Benin, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana and Liberia. The White House said Bush will meet the presidents of these countries "to discuss how the United States can continue to partner with African countries to support continued democratic reform, respect for human rights, free trade, open investment regimes, and economic opportunity across the continent."
It also said the trip will be an opportunity for President Bush to "review firsthand the significant progress" made in the fight against HIV/Aids and malaria. The United States has spent billions on programs fighting HIV/Aids, malaria and other diseases.

As much as I’m disappointed in some ways with our Prez,...I must admit..those are among the most evocative photos I have seen in many years...!!!
Savvy is the least of his skills when it comes to manipulating Dems.
It hurts far more to hear criticism of your son than of your husband, President Bush's mother, former first lady Barbara Bush, said Friday during a wide-ranging discussion.

Liz Smith: Jenna Bush is a true Texan
Last week, ABC's World News Tonight asked me to comment on air about Jenna Bush's decision not to have a White House wedding. I did. I asked, "Does this girl owe the nation a big blowout at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue?" (((WHAT ??? OWE???)))No, she's a true Texan, a "Hook 'em horns" graduate from the U of T, and I am told she is totally divine; likewise her twin sister.

Jenna Bush yesterday ended a six-day trip to Peru, where she arrived on a commercial jet and visited the historic Incan city of Cuzco, along with Machu Picchu and a number of UNICEF's children's projects in the southern part of the country; she blogged about the trip Wednesday on UNICEF's Web site.

HOW BUSH DECIDED ON THE SURGE
A year ago, we were losing in Iraq. Then the president made the most momentous decision of his presidency.
by Fred Barnes
02/04/2008, Volume 013, Issue 20
The date: December 13, 2006. The location: a windowless conference room in the Pentagon known as the Tank. It was an inauspicious place for President Bush to confront the last major obstacle to the most important decision of his second term, perhaps of his entire presidency. And the president chose not to deal with his hosts, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, as a commander in chief would address subordinates. He hadn’t come to the military brass’s turf simply to order the five chiefs and two combatant commanders to begin a “surge” of additional troops in Iraq and to pursue a radical change in strategy. For that, he might have summoned them to the Oval Office or the Situation Room in the basement of the White House. He had come to the Pentagon to persuade and cajole, not command.
