I have a philosophical purpose for approaching my topic this way. The men I am talking to do not hold the same reverence I have for the Constitution nor do they accept the Bible as a reference source for our Founding Fathers. That means that they will discount these arguments out of hand.
Therefore, I resorted to the types of sources humanists can accept... the old philosophers. Once I gain their acceptance of these universal truths, I should be able to build their reverence for what they take for granted.
