True Assualt weapons have been illegal without a special license since the 1930's

“So-called” assault weapons are just knock-offs of the military versions. Look-alikes. Nothing more.

I share that question. For that matter, why do they need rocket launchers?

"Why do American citizens need assault weapons?"

Need has nothing to do with a right. It is the right of every American citizen to own any type of firearm they wish. I repeat... need has nothing to do with a right.

The British asked the exact same question before they set out to a little obscure town in the NE to capture two private cannons.

Because the term “assault weapons” is whatever a legislative body defines it to be. For example in N.J. the legislature has included Daisy Red Ryder BB guns as firearms requiring a colonoscopy to possess. A deer gun can very easily be classified by a legislature as a “high powered sniper rifle”.

BTW it is nobody’s damned business why any American would want an “assault weapon.” Why did colonial citizens need the common firearms of their time?

You will stop asking that question when us Bubba’s use our serious weapons (not pee-shooters for deer) to stop the madness after a liberal goes too far sometime this century.

It’s just verbiage to make the law sound “sensible” to look like they did “something”. If you read it you will see that in fact all it does is ban certain “nasty” and “evil looking” features of milsurp semi-auto rifles. Just playing to the gallery.

Why do American citizens need assault weapons?

Why do you need internet access? Why are presses allowed to be sold unlicensed? Why are churches not forced to adhere to federal standards of religious conduct?

We have certain unalienable rights that are recognized and guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. The Right to Keep and Bear Arms is one of those rights. That right does not say 'only flintlocks', or 'only things that don't look scary'. Assault Weapons, or really the semi-automatic firearms you and the media mistakenly call Assault Weapons, are arms.
