Michael Barone?

So why did Heath Shuler defeat Charles Taylor in NC Western District?

Mitt’s real problems are if Christians reject him, he loses much of the Grassroots support, and NRA strictly (I am one of them) voter guide people don’t buy into him, he will be forced to haggle for the same votes that Hillary is going for, because Conservative Limited Issue voters will not turn out, and will not volunteer for his Campaign.

Well, Ron Paul is right about one thing.  There are more Al Qaeda in Iraq today than in 2003.  However, he failed to mention that they are six feet under ground now.

I still miss Terri. I have a cute picture of her posted on the wall so I can look at her every day and remember. I loved her and I loved everything you tried to do. I remember reading where Mitt Romney at one point took the time to meet one-on-one with Terri’s brother.

Glad to see Romney is gaining more supporters.

As I’ve been saying, he’s going to win Florida, the nomination, and the general election, and everyone should be able to see why now.

I generally hit the abuse button ONLY when someone calls another freeper a liar, or makes up stuff about another freeper, or makes statements that I think would reflect poorly on the site (like suggesting the death of our opponents would be a good thing).

McCain was wrong? Isn’t Lieberman an independent due to a tussle with the party when he was running for re-election?
If Lieberman is an indy, McCain blew that answer.

I didn’t know Mitt had met with him. I exchanged e-mails with him when I was writing a column about the situation — he seemed like a very good man, and what his family had to go through was a nightmare.

>>>>>I don't know what debate most of you were watching, but I thought that with the exception of the Clinton comment, it was a terrible debate for Romney. To me he looked like the typical hot-air politician, saying whatever it takes to win over conservatives.

Well said.

I don’t think Hilary will win unless they cheat up a storm and they might.

“McCain is no pile of roses, but neither is Romney. McCain’s two advantages are he can win in the general, and he isn’t a gun grabber.”

No, he’s just an overt liberal RINO who has proven it by his votes in the Senate. Just what we want, a known collaborator with the Dems who votes with them on key issues like Campaign Finance Reform, the Amnesty Bill, etc. How could you ever vote for him knowing this is beyond me. But each to their own.

You know, the fact that you are supposedly a veteran, and that the Us Government actually placed a loaded gun in your creepy little hands is beyond disturbing on so many levels. Just an observation.

Dude, you are a glutton for punishment

"I'm not running as the Republican view or a continuation of Republican values. That's not what brings me to the race." (Romney Video, accessed 9/19/07)

One could not make this stuff up...

Actually Ron Paul reminds me of Will Ferrel’s character, Harry Carry, on SNL.

“Disagree if you like, but Mitt will get hammered in the general over these “Change of hearts”. The media is just holding fire now to prop him up for the nomination, IMHO.”

Just as they did to Rudy... Letting his numbers creep up and up... Allowing him to be the frontrunner for months, never breathing a word about his sickening history. And then, one day.... BAM!

The only question is, why did they do it BEFORE the primaries? I thought I had their strategy figured out. They must have decided there’s a weaker candidate out there they should be pushing.

You are correct. It was the right thing to say because it was the Constitutional answer. It was not an ideological speech and Mitt has yet to give a rousing ‘call to arms’ to champion an ideal.

Reagan was a common man as well as an intellectual. He could quote great men because he read great men. The man who the press of his day tried to write off as a senile puppet was actually the idea man for the conservative movement and had been for awhile (as the Goldwater support speech shows).

Although didn't “I paid for this microphone” actually play well in the press? I never got the full account of that interplay. I’ll have to look into it. Or ask a FRiend to fill me in.........

It’s always easy to find a couple of people who question others who actually DO things. Much easier to sit on the sidelines with no plan of your own and chastise those who try to actually SOLVE the problems.

It’s always the case — the back-benchers have an easy time of it, until they have to do something. Then they are the ones who get 2nd-guessed.

Of course, his plan SHOULD be questioned. It was a good start with some bad parts put in. But we HAVE a plan we can question, we can watch it work in one state (which was happy to have it), and it will give us ideas for what to do better.

Romney doesn’t want that plan for the country. He wants to provide tax-free money for health care plans, and to give states the flexibility to try different things so we can see what works and what doesn’t.

"NRA strictly (I am one of them) voter guide people don’t buy into him,"

We'll he as much as said he's not going to veto any gun bills that come across his desk and that's about the only thing he can really do with regard to gun rights.

There’s an oil painting of Terri, a new one. It’s beautiful. I’ll FM you how to get a copy.

It’s just my opinion. Fortunately, it looks more and more like we will know in a few months.

I’ve SEEN the NRA endorse candidates far worse on the 2nd amendment than Romney.

I’ve seen the RTL organizations endorse candidates worse on the Right-to-Life issues than Romney.

So it’s not really much of a gamble. Because I’ve seen the opponents, and NONE of them are going to get those endorsements.
