Rush Limbaugh: May Not Support GOP Nominee

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh stunned his listeners by announcing that he might not support the Republican presidential nominee in this year’s election.

Limbaugh said on Monday’s show: "I can see possibly not supporting the Republican nominee this election, and I never thought that I would say that in my life."

The reason: “You don’t have a genuine down-the-list conservative” among the GOP candidates.

“Wherever you go here in this roster of candidates, you're going to be able to point out ‘not conservative, what he did there is not conservative’” Rush said.

The Republican front-runners want the nomination “because it's their turn,” he also stated. “We tried that in '96 with Bob Dole and now they're running the same scenario…

"I'm telling ya, it's gonna come down to which guy do we dislike the least. And that's not necessarily good."

After Rush’s pronouncements, Los Angeles Times blogger Andrew Malcolm wrote: “Across the country, people were dropping their coffee cups, choking on sandwiches, fainting and driving off the road. The king of conservative talk radio not supporting the Republican nominee?”

But Limbaugh’s remarks are not quite so surprising in light of statements he made about GOP candidates Mike Huckabee and John McCain last week:

“I'm here to tell you, if either of these two guys get the nomination, it's going to destroy the Republican Party. It's going to change it forever, be the end of it. A lot of people aren't going to vote. You watch.”

[Rush Limbaugh: May Not Support GOP Nominee]

Something is very, very wrong with the G.O.P. republicans when all the front runners are neo liberals and the conservatives of the right are mocked for being conservative.
We live in a sad time and I fear the nation will die for lack of wisdom, and that means all the people who love the lies of liberalism will destroy the nation from within and that means their money will dry up as the wrath of God grows toward Him that created them. As for me, I will call on the name of the Lord Jesus, who is Christ indeed, and believe His Holy Bible, forsaking the wrong and evil ways of man.
May the God of Israel and His annointed Christ save us from the despotism of the fools who profess themselves to be wise as the nation collapses under their misguided and cruel intentions.

[so what should we do? just sit there and let hillary win?]

No. However, it is time for a new conservative party whose primary voters can not be crossovers and politicians who believe and hold to all the tenents of conservatism.

[If I were to listen to John Adams, you know one of our founding fathers, I would either write in Fred Thompson or, if one of the third party candidates are actually conservative and not anti-WOT,...]

Well said. The GOP is anti conservative pro liberal kooks of the worst sort. I suspect they hate the base voters, the Bible believing Lord Jesus praising conservatives and are trying to make the big tent party work, but I also suspect they will fail if they believe the base of the right is as ignorant and foolish as the base of the left and that includes the rinos.

[The Republican Party has survived moderate nominees in the past—Gerald Ford, GHW Bush, and others.]

Has it survived? Or has it become neo liberal, I say it is neo liberal.

-————so what should we do? just sit there and let hillary win?-————

Yes.

If the R nominates McCain or Huckabee and they go down in flames, Conservatism is “safe”. The party can rebuild, so can the country.

If R nominates Mc or Huck and they win, Conservatism, the R, *AND* the country go down in flames.

So you decide. This is why I’d consider voting for hillary just to stop it.

Conservatism will be redefined as big government, tax increases, attacks on the first amendment, amnesty, global warming, and all the other things that these two idiots stand for and we shouldn’t let that happen. That would be the clear cut end of conservatism as we know it.

Reagan is rolling in his grave.

Yup!
The difference between McCain and Hillary in foreign and domestic policy would be nil, given a Democrat House & Senate.
Might as well have the failures clearly labeled “Democrat”, so conservatives can start with a clean slate in 2012.

I can remember a time when conservatism had much less influence in the Republican Party than it has now--but that was when the Democratic Party had not moved nearly as far in the direction of socialism as it has now.

With the media lined up almost 100% on the Democratic side (vs. maybe 5% pro-Republican and 5% for fringe parties to the left of the 'Rats), it's an uphill struggle to persuade independents to vote Republican...so I'm willing to vote for less-than-perfect Republicans considering the alternative.

Well your pro Mitt Right?? have you read the things he’s said about gun control? McCain isn’t the perfect supporter of the 2nd Amendment but he’s a lot better than Mitt. Likewise Romney essientally endorsed McCain’s immigration plan until he entered the race.

Thanks for the welcome. I actually use to post on FR pretty regularly but stopped logging on for awhile, no particular reason, and I forgot my old sn and password. Anyway, yea I know it’s generally a conservative thread, which is half the fun for me, lol.

I agree that Ron Paul has some not super desirable positions, i.e. pulling out of Iraq immediately. Likewise McCain has some, i.e. McCain/Feingold or his support for a gun show ban. My bigger point though is that by not voting for the Republican – even if he is a bit moderate – or Libertarian candidate, and thereby essentially voting for the Dem, the country – and the 2nd amendment in particular – may well suffer damage that will take generations to reverse if it is reversible at all. I’m not sure ‘sacrificing your vote, for the good of the republican party’ makes much sense in that respect. Not to mention the fact that some extremely right wing conservatives choosing to not vote in the general election as a ‘protest’ to the party is bound to have pretty much no affect at all on the party leadership.

I would support McLaim (vs put up with Clinton)as a holder until we can re-build the base and put up a decent candidate in 2012

LoL, I´m sure the GOP will be strong as ever after 4 years of McCain.

Vote GOP, we promise not to piss away another 20 years.

Very Compelling.
