McLean, VA - Senator Fred Thompson today issued the following statement about his campaign for President:

"Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people."

Now you know how Hunter fans felt last week.

Actually I knew last week how they felt. I would've been glad to support Hunter as a second choice.

That said, I've lost respect for more than a few posters on this forum because of their flaming hatred for Fred. It's been eye-opening to say the least.

Okay appeaser. Just another easy road for you.

Oh yeah, you're really taking the hard road, tough guy.

Takes a lot of courage to stay at home on election day and call everyone else a sellout from the blood soaked battlefield of your computer desk.

Anyone who says that the Alito and Roberts nominations were a wash is a fool, and I'm not about to sit by and give Hillary the chance to nominate another Buzzie Ginsberg or Red Stevens while she signs handgun confiscation laws and income tax increases.

The “go home” people are retards. Definite mental defect. If you mean those that are planning to stay home now that Fred is out, I'm almost with you. It's the "can't see the forest for the trees syndrome". People that vociferously proclaim how conservative they are, and therefore are adamantly against Romney or Rudy come across as very elitist. The "all or nothing" folks have short term memory...they forgot that the country's problems come from Democrat power. The root of the problem is Democrats.

Now I can go into make life hard for RINO mode!,/i>

Now you're talking!

Make sure they understand how un-qualified their RHINO candidates really are to be POTUS!

America has a lot of growing up to do before it can appreciate a candidate like Fred.

He doesn’t play the Drive-By Media’s juvenile games, he doesn’t do things for appearances sake, and he refuses to go along with the public appetite for simplistic, feel-good “solutions” to complicated problems.

I don’t think we’ve heard the last of Fred this election. I think he’s got more to do, either onstage or behind the scenes.

"I am writing to support him, sending another check"

lol...why? Think Fred has hard time feeding his family? Worry not -- he'll be just fine.

Following I posted on another thread regarding Fred quitting the race:

“Now for a “succedaneum”. I chose that word as pronounced it sounds dirty as the politics of this Election Cycle although it simply means “Substitute”.

Fred and Duncan are out. As I posted elsewhere that means Conservatism is redefined in the eyes of the masses heretofore as the remaining of the Republican Candidates are NOT Conservative by any means.

WE have decided in the event that there is no TRUE Conservative available for us to vote for that we must then tack to port somewhat and place our vote where it will help to avoid the rocks.

Romney ‘08.”

GOSH! I HOPE THAT meets with YOUR approval.

Writing in Fred or Duncan is a vote for Hillary or Obama.

Voting is not to be taken lightly...too many have died for us to have the privilege.

Who disgusts you more, Romney or Hillary/Obama?

In a perfect world I would probably stay home too. But Like I said, I’m going to do everything I can to keep the Democrats out of the WH. I can’t let the party that has spent the past 6 years stabbing the troops in the back become in charge of them; the troops have done their job. I’m just going to have to choke down vomit and vote RINO. Our worst candidate will make a better commander then any of the Dem traitors.

Ya know, wouldn’t it be a hoot if all the Fredheads went ahead and wrote his name in in the remaining Primaries/Caucuses? A guy who quit the race getting 10 or 15% of the vote!!! HAHAHHAHAH!

Good for you! You just screwed over my very Conservative Congressman John Culberson. So you abandon your fellow soldiers on the battlefield to be slaughtered! What honor!

Enjoy your 3 new Supreme Court Justices hand picked by Hillary.

I am pretty sure what he meant was that he would not be voting for any of the remaining RHINOs for President.

Not that he would not vote for any dependable conservatives running for any other office.

But thanks for the over-reaction.

"This country has no conservative candidate and my vote is now a stay home. This country is doomed."

Jim, ask John if there's any way to filter out everyone with born-on dating of '06 or later.

Thanks in advance,
Stan

Yes, IT will send a message, and I heartily recommend doing it.

Thanks for all you, Politicalmom, 2ndDivisionVet, Josh Painter, and the rest of you hard-working FredHeads have done. We always knew it'd be an uphill struggle, but I think it was still worthwhile, all told. In the end, though, style-over-substance and the Endless Campaign won out, and our republic is the poorer for it.

I'll also follow Fred's lead; I endorse or advocate no other candidate. You can officially mark me down as "Undecided". I might settle on another candidate in time, but, chances are, that choice will have been made for me by the time I get to vote in May. In the mean time, I'll do everything I can to make sure that choice isn't Mike Huckabee.

Also, I urge those of you who no longer have a burning interest in the Presidential race to consider lending a hand at the state level and in Congressional elections. Here in NC, for example, we have the first real chance in some time to put a conservative Republican in the governor's mansion, and it's always good to try and put a dent in the hopelessly corrupt Democrat majority in the General Assembly. I'm sure there's an election worth getting involved in in your state.

What are you 12 years old?

How does it feel to be duped by the MSM and to be parrotting their line?

Anybody paying attention knows what a hard effort Fred has put into this.

I wish to take the opportunity to express my sympathies at this announcement. You people have expressed your views and your positions with passion and reason, and I am glad for the exchanges.

I firmly believe we are witnessing America’s Darkest Hour. The Communists feel that they have reached critical mass, with their control of academia, the media, the workers, and and can now manipulate the opposition party and the masses to select who their candidates oppose.

And I also believe that the Republican Party has now disavowed any connection with its conservative core. It is simply a vote factory for the express purpose of keeping the party elite in perpetual power.

In the words of Karl Rove, “Of course they’ll vote Republican, where else are they going to go?” I think I know the answer: the conservatives will leave the GOP, either headed for a third party, or for the house.

At this hour, I truly don’t know which way I shall go. The shock of the news is too near. But I think my new tagline says it best.

Thank you, and may God forgive the United States.
