A RINO will be nominated.

This person will NOT be in the tradition nor philosophy of Ronald Reagan, of small government domestically and steadfast opposition to appeasement abroad.

The true issue then is, in November do we "settle" and suddenly come up with a whole bag of rationalizations as to why to vote for a Republican (D) vs. a Democrat (D) in the General Election--even as conservatives, when we might have an Independent Conservative Candidacy third option at that time.

Worth pondering. I would start considering these options NOW. Consider it multi-tasking, i.e. working on your "Plan B" after Fred Thompson withdraws and throws his support to Senator McCain.

So I take it you are advocating either:

A) Just giving up now
or
B) Voting 3rd party

I’ve got news, neither of those is an acceptable option that will produce a victory. That means we keep fighting for conservative principles, and we keep fighting for Fred. The race is a long way from over and no one is running away with it yet. Fred is AHEAD of Giuliani in delegates, are we going to forget that little tidbit? He should be dropping out first by that logic.

No, this whole process is screwed up enough that there is no way Fred should stop here. Full steam ahead until all hope is proven lost and one candidate emerges the clear winner.

We need you Fred! Don’t let today get you down!

Go Fred!

OK, AIT. Assuming that you are right, and I think you are, that we will have a choice between global warming open borders socialist appeaser No.1 or global warming open borders socialist appeaser No.2, and we are not willing to give our vote to either, where do we go?

I am genuinely open to suggestions.

I’m not sure it is the first thng we need, but we will need a candidate eventually, and considering the time remaining, filing deadlines, fund raising and the like, I’d say we will need one soon.

Independent Conservative Candidacy?

If the "true conservatives" fail to ignite anything but token support, an "Independent Conservative Candidacy" does nothing more than ensure a Clinton presidency.

And I've heard ALL the rationalizations about "principle" RINOs and Republicrats, etc.

The simple fact is that a third party run is doomed to failure, a la Ross Perot.

I, personally, will vote for Romney or, G-d Forbid, McCain or Schmuckabee, should Thompson drop out of the race, because I will do whatever I can to defeat Her Thighness.

This tripe about a third party is the same "teach them a lesson" attitude that gave us a Democrat congress in 2006.

I hope Thompson stays in, if only to give thinking conservatives a voice at the convention. The Media has done a great job of propping up the RINOs and relegating the conservatives to the back of the bus in this election. The woeful turnout in most of the GOP contests so far is a clear sign of things to come in November. If we could have all rallied early behind an actual conservative, things might have been different. However, it now seems Republicans will reluctantly be holding their noses and voting for the eventual nominee. However, the long lines on election date will be for the energized left, voting for the committed socialist.

The “fence straddler” that we’ll put up on our side will draw small number of votes from both sides of the fence, but not enough of either to make a difference.

It’s too bad, because both Obama and Hillary, should be weak candidates, if compared side by side with someone with contrasting positions. As it is, Romney can’t criticize the DEMS on Romney Care, or big government. Huckabee can hardly criticise on raising taxes, growing government, and none of the top three can criticize anybody on Amnesty for illegals.

We’re screwed, and we didn’t even get dinner out of it.
