COLUMBIA, South Carolina (CNN) Three hours into voting, the South Carolina State Election Commission reports that turnout has been low "across the board" for today's Republican primary here.
"All the reports I've received from various counties is that turnout has been light," said commission spokesman Chris Whitmire.
Polls opened at 7 a.m. throughout the state, where cold, rainy weather may be a factor in slowing turnout.
But Whitmire said that since state elections are usually held on a Tuesday, it's difficult to discern any pattern.

You are right the low turnout helps Fred and keeps the Democrats at home and away from our primary.

People can rationalize all they want but I can’t help but view low turnouts at Republican conventions as an ominous sign.

You would think that Republicans would be more likely to brave the weather to vote than Independents. Hopefully, this is a bad sign for McCain.

And low turnout favors 5 2 Dennis Kucinich? No?
ROFLMAO...NO! that would be a "short" turnout. I figure that a "low" turnout will help any of the RINO 's as they have a habit of slinking into everything they do. We Conservatives will hold our heads high and do the right thing.

People can rationalize all they want but I can't help but view low turnouts at Republican conventions as an ominous sign.Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions. First, a lot of folks might be waiting for the weather to improve later in the day before voting. Second, the turnout may be held down by the fact that many voters don't really have a preferred candidate and thus won't go out in bad weather to vote in the primary. But many of these same voters would definitely come out come November, regardless of weather, to vote for the GOP nominee against his Stalinist-'Rat opponent.
BTW, this is a primary election, not a "convention."

The low turnout is due to the bad weather. I think that this will impact the independents who would vote for McCain. I am not sure how it will affect Huckabee voters. However, Thompson and Romney may benefit.

I _really_ hope Fred can show well so I can get rid of this tagline.

Wife & I voted for Fred @ 9am and there was a constant stream of voters who looked like Conservativea in my small (2000 voter) Chas. Cty precinct...there were about 100 voters already signed and voted.
Weather was wet and 40 degrees....most Libs will stay in front of CNN today and not bother to support McC or Huck, IMO!

Whatever combination of Romney/Thompson would be in my mind the Dream Team. I would prefer Thompson in the Number 1 spot and have Romney as Vice President. With his age at 60 now, he would be set for the Presidency when he turns 69, after Thompson has the Presidency for two terms.
The future looks bright!

A Thompson-Romney ticket would be a dream team!Agreed, it's nothing but a dream. ; )
Thompson/Hunter is more realistic.
