Plot to kill Queen foiled
The Australian ^ | 14th January 2008

LONDON: A plot by al-Qa'ida operatives to kill the Queen during a state visit to Uganda less than two months ago was foiled by security services.

The terrorists had planned to hide inside two broadcast vans owned by the Ugandan Broadcasting Corporation and then set off bombs during the Queen's visit to Kampala last November.

London's Sunday Express reported the vans were seized after a tip-off from intelligence agents.

As a result, the broadcaster was unable to transmit live pictures of key summit events, including the Queen's historic address to the Ugandan parliament on November 22.

The Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and his wife Camilla travelled to the east African nation's capital for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, attended by more than 30 world leaders. Australia was represented by Richard Alston, the High Commissioner to London.

Uganda's Internal Affairs Minister Ruhakana Rugunda said several suspected terrorists were arrested.

"We received information that a terrorist group linked to al-Qa'ida, the Allied Democratic Forces, was planning to carry out terrorist activities at the Commonwealth meeting," he told the Sunday Express.

"The security services in Uganda neutralised these threats."

Dr Rugunda refused to comment on the exact nature of the intended attacks or reports that Ugandan armed forces had seized a speedboat loaded with arms and homemade bombs.

A number of suspected ADF guerillas aboard the boat on Lake Victoria are believed to have been taken into custody, the Sunday Express reported.

God save our gracious Queen
Long live our noble Queen
God save the Queen
Send her victorious
Happy and glorious
Long to reign over us
God save the Queen

O Lord, our God, arise
Scatter her enemies
And make them fall
Confound their politics
Frustrate their knavish tricks
On Thee our hopes we fix
God save us all

Thy choicest gifts in store
On her be pleased to pour
Long may she reign
May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice
God save the Queen

Love her. Absolutely love her. One of the PBS stations here is broadcasting "The Queen at 80" tonight.

Frustrate their knavish tricks, indeed, although knavish is not the first word I would use. I wonder what happens to terrorists who are taken into custody by the Ugandan government. Do they get comfy cells, all the Korans they want, a Halal diet and their own chaplains? Or are they perhaps made a little uncomfortable.

Whatever you may think of her - and I have met her, and am friends with two of her sons and they show no sign of inbreeding at all - she is the Head of State of a number of the United States closest allies.

She’s dedicated her entire life to the service of her nation and her commonwealth.

Impossible.

Everyone knows that there is no such thing as Islamic extremism. There is only US Imperialism.

The rest of the world, including those bastions of anti-socialism, Britain France and Germany, are as pure as the driven snow.

It's all our fault. If we would just leave the Islamofascists, I mean the poor defenseless ancient Muslims alone, there would be no violence and peace would "reign supreme", to quote Chairman Kaga.

They are simply defending themselves against US saber-rattling and jingoism. Everyone knows that terrorism only began when George W. Bush was selected by the SCOTUS.

Why, under President BJ Clinton everything was wonderful. There were no attacks and America was much safer. And there were no WMDs in Iraq. Illegal war ... and Saddam was merely a pretext for war.

Just ask Hillary Rotten Clinton, Her Thighness, and Barak "Not That Hussein" Obama.....and Ron Paul .... and Mike Schmuckabee, for that matter.

Good Lord, it's hard being a moonbat. I think I hurt myself.

Knavish had a much stronger meaning in the days when that song was written. It was a very offensive term.

I read the headline and knew immediately “who” planned to kill her. I knew it was not the Scots, or the Irish. Hint: they won’t shake your hand with their left hand, and they cut Jewish heads off while singing about it and filming it.

She is not a cousin of mine although one of her servants in the place they use one weekend a year up by Liverpool is a not so distant cousin and he says she is an ordinary bloke when she isn’t on display.

She has done an often thankless job over many, many years in very difficult circumstances. I don’t know if the monarchy would have survived with anyone less capable in her place. If England has problems these days, it’s certainly not her fault.
