Good heavens, nic. How terrible.

Getting pop to talk about WWII was like pulling teeth. Korea was a forbidden subject.

The Lord got hold of my dad’s language.

I wish he'd got hold of my pops sometimes. He was a colorful character. I think the worse word I ever said in front of him was damn or hell and I rarely said it around him. He frowned on women talking like that. lololol

He lost lots of good friends, pretty much all in one day.

He wasn’t there because of the “luck of the draw.” He told me that they were all asked to state which holiday they wanted to be in the States, Christmas or New Years. My dad, never one at the time to pass up a good time, picked New Years (for obvious reasons). The guys who picked Christmas were sent over. He and whoever picked New Years, stayed in the States....and I guess because so many died, the ones in the states were needed to continue training people to be sent over....he training them to shoot.

How horrible. My pop wouldn't talk about his buddies that got killed. When he died he took so many stories with him that will never be known.

I see history channel shows about the Korean conflict and it looked very bad for our soldiers. Maybe that's why.

In one week, I was required to show my picture ID at a Best Buy, Staples, two supermarkets, a pharmacy, Wall-Mart, and the nice policeman who let me off with a lecture.

If that were me (I go to all the same places, except Walmart; and I don't drive), I would have told them that I didn't have my ID with me. Of course, if there's a problem, I can just as easily pay with my debit card (no ID required), rather than a credit card. Why are you showing your ID to everyone? We are losing our freedoms, people. Other than flying on a plane, who needs to see your ID?

Yeah. My Dad has little to say about Vietnam, a bit more to say about WWII, and darn near nothing about Korea.

That's not how my dad thought.....he figured women should be taken care of by the men and not have to be out there working hard supporting the family...that was something the man should be doing....not a sign of disrespect with him. Quite the opposite, actually.

I try to watch everything I can about it but the history channel really chaps my butt for the last couple of years. A person would never know we won the Revolutionary War until the last five minutes of the show.
