I have reached the point where I can hardly watch the talking heads, I don’t care if they’re Republicans or Democrats. They’re all political operatives, they spin everything. It’s never a real conversation.

Hear hear!

Geez, Horowits really nailed this one. He was not seriously refuted in anything he had to say. The least paragraph, to me was the most sobering and answers many questions about where we are and the reason why.

" When I was in college during the 1950s, I never heard a professor one time in one class express a political point of view. As a Marxist, wholly out of step with the temper of those anti-Communist times, I would have been hyper-sensitive to such an intrusion. My professors, whatever their politics, were about teaching. It was never about trying to persuade their students to adopt their political prejudices. There was very little political activity on campus, which was something we on the left complained about. But we were wrong. The introduction of political agendas is an obstacle to serious reflection. If you’re always fighting political battles you don’t have room to think.

A remarkable interview by Jesse Singal. I suspect that he has never been fully exposed to these ideas before and may have left the interview a bit befuddled. No doubt his more senior editors will set him straight soon enough.

He may be an example of the following passage from the interview:

...the students who suffer most from professors who indoctrinate them and from the lack of conservatives on academic faculties are liberal students because they are never challenged intellectually. Their assumptions are shared by their professors and often the majority of their classmates. They can get up in a class and people will agree with them and support their perspective. All the teacher will tell them is that they need to get such and such a source, or “This is a better argument.” What they won’t get is a challenge to their assumptions.

If you’re a conservative student, and you have the gumption to speak up in class, you’ve got to be prepared to defend yourself. So the conservative kids are getting, ironically, a much better education. They are being faced with critical opinions from liberal and leftwing adults whereas the leftist students never even encounter a conservative faculty member.

Incredibly good read. I had to stick with it a bit at the beginning, but what a reward.

“Radical Son” is the best autobiography I’ve ever read.

Unfortunately, I had to leave for a dental appt. I came back and read, and yes, it was a very good article.

To be correct, it wasn't really a discussion. Horowitz's word count was way above Jesse's.

It's kinda puzzling... this was published in Frontpage but it was an interview by Campus Progress? Is that to say Campus Progress didn't run it?

Maybe it is more to allow us to compare what Horowitz recalls when Campus Progress finally publishes.

I also went to college in the 50s and although some of the professors and students were liberal they were open to discussion on all sides of the issues.

I fear that is less so today and that is truly tragic for the students who don’t get an opening of their minds to other points of view.

I fear ...
You fear correctly. I retired after 33 years at a large northeastern university in 2003.

As a techie/geek I tended to get in early so I could get work done before mgt. showed up. Early mornings on more than one occasion I saw classic "dirty hippy" types pick up the entire stack of the Republican Club's newspaper and heave then in the recycling bin.

Talks hosted by the Republican Club were harassed (require police, etc.) and rioted at. The left did not welcome anything but echoes of their own views.

I won't even get started on the indoctrination crap they tried to shove down our (staff's) throats.

Academentia sucks...
