I don't know where anyone got the idea that either award was supposed to be an "honor". Apparently 95% of the DaMN subscribers have that idea.

On reflection, they're right. The words "Texan of the Year" do have a different connotation than "Person of the Year". "Texan" is a good thing, while "Person" is neutral.
I guess I'm still a bit annoyed at all the teeth-gnashing that went on over Putin as Time's Person of the Year, as if Hitler and Stalin hadn't won that award in the past.
