Eight Possibilities Heading Into '08
IBD ^ | December 31, 2007

Posted on 12/31/2007 5:03:39 PM PST by Kaslin

In this season for predictions, and in keeping with this issue of IBD, we again offer our "possibilities" for the new year. We hope we won't be held to these "8 for '08" any more than last year's "7 for '07." (We were right about gloves coming off in Iraq, Mexico getting it together under Calderon, regulation squeezing U.S. markets, tech building a better world and the decline of the mainstream media, but less right — so far — on the backfiring of Iran's oil weapon and the retreat of the euro.) But here it goes nonetheless:

1. Mideast Time Bomb Ticks Down

This could be the year the world comes to its senses and realizes that Iran is a Hitler-like threat to freedom and civilization. Millions of innocent lives could have been saved had the free world destroyed the Nazis sooner.

Tehran will launch its Bushehr nuclear reactor this summer. The Islamofascist regime claims its nuclear program is peaceful, but no one should doubt Iran will have the bomb in relatively short order. Which means the global jihad will have the bomb.

Yet the United Nations and most of Europe dithers. A misleading — and likely politicized — U.S. National Intelligence Estimate has encouraged their inaction.

German diplomats last week, for instance, grumbled about increased sanctions on Iran heightening Mideast tensions. The country is worried about its billions of dollars in trade with Iran — a petty concern considering the threat of nuclear terrorism.

The U.S. must either help engineer the overthrow of the mullahs — a tough task this late in the day — or America or Israel will be faced with bombing Iran's nuclear facilities.

The discovery could provide a virtually unlimited supply of embryonic stem cells without the moral baggage of or need to use human embryos, cloning or human eggs. It also takes such research out of the political arena back into the realm of science, where it belongs.

That's right. Sans the moral objections of destroying human life in its earliest stages, science can re-focus its efforts on science and we can move ahead unfettered by a damaged conscience. This is the best of all worlds. Everyone should be very pleased with this discovery.

Everyone should be very pleased with this discovery.

Everybody except the abortionists and their supporters who have been using embryonic stem cell research to try to make abortion a moral positive.
