I just plugged in the numbers for my wife and I after we do our planned early retirement into the "FairTax Calculator"(
http://www.fairtaxcalculator.org), and the "FairTax" would result in an increase of about 19% in Federal taxes over the system we have now. No thanks!!
You should revisit that since it’s VERY unlikely to be the case. You’ve probably overlooked some of the items not included as taxable and if you’re careful in most cases your effective tax rate will be about 1/2 what it is at present.
Even many of those who oppose the FairTax complain that using the FairTax calculator their effective tax rate is “too low”.
To get a sense of how the rate drops you might spend some time looking into it on the FairTax website.
